Chi sweeps singles, defeats Glen Mills for Del Val title

Cliff Passawe, Ricky VanNewkirk and Alex Lindley swept the singles in straight sets, and Chichester defeated Glen Mills, 4-1, to win its fifth consecutiv­e Del Val League boys tennis title.

VanNewkirk needed a tiebreaker for a 6-1, 7-5 (7-2) win over Saul Ramirez at second singles. Andre Settles and Jaeion LaVane were 6-3, 6-2 winners for Glen Mills at third doubles. ACADEMY PARK 3, PENN WOOD 2 » Singles wins by Mel Schoolfiel­d, Kosovar Cocaj and Marcel Cooper put the Knights over the top.

Micken Daly and Anny Nguyen had a 6-2, 4-6, 12-10 triumph at second doubles to sweep the pairs competitio­n for the Patriots.

In the Central League: UPPER DARBY 6, RIDLEY 1 » Zach Thornton and William Scott, and Ben McKay and Jude Matthews had marathon third sets to win at first and third doubles, respective­ly. Thornton and Scott won 6-4, 4-6, 10-7, while McKay and Matthews came out on top 6-3, 4-6, 14-12. STRATH HAVEN 7, SPRINGFIEL­D 0 » Fin L’Armand and George Steinke swept first and second singles without losing a game. Dylan Demo and Ryan Tian, and Lucas Bennett and Steven Zhou did the same at second and third doubles, respective­ly, for the Panthers.

In the Inter-Ac League: HAVERFORD SCHOOL 4, GERMANTOWN ACADEMY 3 » Cole Wood and Julius Gotz, Sunny Yu and Thomas Ward, and Jeff Biozzi and Aly Ba took the top three doubles matches to win it for the Fords.

In the Ches-Mont League: WEST CHESTER EAST 7, SUN VALLEY 0» The Vikings dropped a total of eight games, three in singles and five in doubles.

Softball

Interboro’s Bridget Bailey controlled a game Tuesday both on the mound and at the plate.

Bailey tied a career high with 16 strikeouts, while at the plate she knocked in four runners as the Bucs cruised past Chichester 6-0 in Del Val League softball action Tuesday.

Bailey was perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a three-run triple in the first inning and only gave up one hit for the Bucs (11-1, 9-0).

In the Catholic League: CARDINAL O’HARA 5, ARCHBISHOP CARROLL 0 » Jenn Smith pitched a complete game, allowing five hits and striking out eight, Julia Kush was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored and Grace Hussey chipped in a double for the Lions. BONNER & PRENDERGAS­T 7, CONWELL-EGAN 1 » Meghan Sullivan went 2-for-4 with two RBIs while giving up only three hits and striking out 11. Kaitlyn Martin went 2-3 with a pair of RBIs and Mia Falcone had two hits and an RBI for the Pandas (10-3, 9-1).

In the Bicentenni­al League: CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 9, DELCO CHRISTIAN 3 » Dayla Fuselli had three hits and Gen Kozub went five innings, allowing six hits and three runs while striking out three for the Crusaders (8-1, 8-1). TCA tallied seven runs in the second inning.

In the Central League: UPPER DARBY 5, GARNET VALLEY 3 » Brooke Jones went 3-for-4, Camryn Young added two hits and Rebecca Sorrentino had seven strikeouts to lead the Royals.

Kelly McLaughlin had a pair of doubles, Anne Bechtold hit a double of her own and Becca Halford was 3-for-3 for the Jaguars. HAVERFORD 17, RADNOR 0 » Haley Greenwald was 3-for-3 with four RBIs, Morgan Marchasani was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Annabelle Donato struck out six of the nine batters she faced for the Fords, who scored 10 runs in the first inning. RIDLEY 11, RADNOR 3 » Alexa Moore blasted a grand slam in the fifth inning and Sammy Williams and Anissa Miller had three hits each for the Raiders. Ridley’s Morgan Chapman picked up the win on the mound and added two hits.

Baseball

Andrew Rodriguez went 4-for-4 with five RBIs and Dan Dwyer hit a two-run single for his first varsity hit as Chichester rolled past Chester, 17-0 in the Del Val League.

Joe Renzi added two RBIs and starting pitcher Zach Taylor struck out eight for the Eagles (10-2, 9-2).

In the Inter-Ac: MALVERN PREP 9, HAVERFORD SCHOOL 5 » Sean Clark had a tworun single, Justin Meyer had an RBI double and Zak Summy pitched five innings giving up five hits and four earned runs while striking out four for the Fords (11-8, 3-4).

In the Bicentenni­al League: DELCO CHRISTIAN 9, MORRISVILL­E 3 » Tyler Rossini struck out 14, gave up no earned runs and finished an out shy of a complete game while Penn Schmidt, Clay Corcimigli­a and Cole Levis all had two hits apiece for the Knights. PHIL-MONT CHRISTIAN 8, CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 7 » Andrew Brinkworth hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth and Micah Johnson had a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh to get it to extras, but TCA fell a run short in eight innings.

Boys Track

As it has done all season, Haverford High used its balance to complete an undefeated run through the Central League with a double dual meet victory over Ridley and Garnet Valley.

The Fords won seven individual events and a pair of relays to top the Green Raiders, 98.5-51.5 and the Jaguars 97.67-52.33. Garnet Valley defeated Ridley, 84-66.

Andrew Elcock (200), Aiden Tomov (800), Brendan Campbell (1,600), C.J. Weh (high jump), Dolin Ney (long jump), Trey Blair (javelin) and Chasen Wint (shot put) were the individual winners. The Fords also took first in the 4 x 100- and 4 x 400-meter relays.

Tony Graham won both hurdles events to pace Ridley. Justin Bromley (400) and Larry Coaxum (triple jump) claimed gold for the Jaguars. PENNCREST TAKES TWO » Ethan Rigby and Billy Angelina won three events each to lead the Lions (9-1-1) past Conestoga (125-25) and Strath Haven (89-61). The Panthers beat the Pioneers, 116-32.

Rigby won the 300 hurdles and was on the winning 4 x 100- and 4 x 400-meter relays. Angelina anchored the 4 x 800 and 4 x 400 relays and took first in the 800. Collin Tait (100, 4 x 100) and Brendan Luong (4 x 800, 4 x 400) were double winners for the Lions.

Cooper Driscoll captured the javelin, shot put and discus to lead Strath Haven. MARPLE NEWTOWN SENIORS SHINE » Seniors Jeff Piscitelli (400), Michael Vanderloo (800 & 1,600) and Nick Delisle (pole vault) won and posted personal bests on senior day.

Piscitelli won the 400 in 51.9 seconds. Vanderloo captured the 1,600 in 4:57.90 and the 800 in 2:09.90. Delisle vaulted 11-6 to win that event. In the team competitio­n the Tigers defeated Springfiel­d (108-42) and lost to Lower Merion (98.5-51.5). The Aces also defeated Springfiel­d (127-18).

Girls Track

Freshman Grace Zamrowski and Lindsay Chapman came up big to lead Garnet Valley to a pair of wins in the Central League.

Zamrowski won the 400 (59.67) and Chapman took first in the pole vault (7-6) as the Jaguars defeated Haverford 97-53 and Ridley 7450. The Green Raiders topped the Fords, 86-63.

Seniors Catherine Mooney (800) and Maura Tease (300 hurdles) were the other individual winners for GV. Cecilia Katcavage captured all three throwing events to lead Haverford. Meghan Lynch won the 100 hurdles and the long and triple jumps for Ridley.

In the Inter-Ac League: EPISCOPAL ACADEMY 82, NOTRE DAME 29 » Sophomore Cayla Beaulieu won the high jump and 400 for the Churchwome­n, while senior captain Molly Giles captured the 1,600 and 3,200.
