Levis’ perfect bunt lifts Delco Christian in extras

Cole Levis’ walk-off bunt in the bottom of the ninth inning gave Delaware County Christian School a 3-2 victory over Calvary Christian in Bicentenni­al League baseball action Thursday.

Levis executed a perfect safety squeeze to knock in the winning run. Earlier in the game, Josey Chow made a great diving catch in the outfield to thwart a Calvary Christian rally.

Brett Tanis pitched 5.2 solid innings and Robert Lucas earned the win in relief for the Knights. Clay Corcimigli­a had a double in the victory.

In the Central League: MARPLE NEWTOWN 12, PENNCREST 6 » John Busa slugged his first career home run, and Luke Zimmerman also had a round-tripper for the red-hot Tigers (16-0, 130), who clinched at least a share of the Central League title.

Zimmerman finished 2-for-2 with four RBIs and three runs scored, while Alden Mathes added a single and three runs scored. Mathes picked up the win on the mound, allowing no runs and one hit with four Ks in three innings of work.

Andrew Cantwell chipped RBIs for Marple.

Matt Arbogast and a double. STRATH HAVEN 6, SPRINGFIEL­D 1 » Henry Dawes struck out four and allowed one hit and no earned runs over six innings for the victory. He was helped offensivel­y by All-Delco Anthony Viggiano, who finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a pair of runs scored. Justin Malley had two hits and Luke Mutz finished 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs.

Mike Conran had an RBI and and walked for the Cougars. HAVERFORD 12, UPPER DARBY 3 » Aaron Elcock fell a double short of the cycle for the Fords, who pounded out 12 hits. Elcock went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, three runs scored and a walk. Dan Kelleher went 2-for-3 with a triple and tossed five solid innings with five Ks for the win. Shaun Jones added two hits and three RBIs.

Mike Peters, who tripled, hits apiece for Upper Darby.

In the Del Val League: ACADEMY PARK 7, CHESTER 3 » Barry Brown gave up only two hits and no earned runs with eight strikeouts to get the win.

Billy Martin doubled and had two RBIs, while Hunter Dorman collected two hits, two runs scored and one ribbie for the Knights (7-6, 7-5).

In the Ches-Mont League: SUN VALLEY 9, BISHOP SHANAHAN 8 » Nick Wright’s clutch single in the top of the ninth scored Ryan Duplicki and propelled the Vanguards (4-11, 4-11) to victory. Wright also earned the win from the mound.

Jared Korenkiewi­cz had a three-hit, two-RBI game. Ryan Kester added two base knocks and a pair of RBIs.

In nonleague action: BONNER & PRENDERGAS­T 12, HILL SCHOOL 10 » Matt Shepherd blasted a home run and went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBIs to help the Friars (8-6) to paced the in with Lions and with Nick a Alex hit and two Sharer Mani three singles singled had two their sixth win in seven games.

Nate Furman scored four runs and twice singled, and Paul Kokol went 3-for-5 with a triple and two ribbies. Jason Nihill went 1-for-1 with three walks.

Softball

Bonner & Prendergas­t Catholic League.

The reigning champions scored early and often Thursday en route to an 11-4 triumph over Cardinal O’Hara.

Kaitlyn Martin led the charge for the Pandas (11-3, 10-1), going 3-for-4 with a homer, triple and five RBIs.

Meghan Sullivan went the distance from the circle (four Ks) and helped herself at the plate with two hits and three RBIs.

Erin Grogan supplied three hits chipped in with two base knocks.

In the Central League: UPPER DARBY 8, HAVERFORD 0 » Rebecca Sorrentino spun a two-hit shutout with five strikeouts as the Royals swept the season series with the Fords.

Six of UD’s 11 hits went for extra bases, including a home run by Sara Sullivan. Brooke Jones (3-for-3, three RBIs), Alexandra Witmer (2-for-4), Rylee Shanahan (2-for-2, two runs, RBI), Camryn Young (two RBIs) and Sorrentino (2-for-4) all doubled in the winning effort.

Lauren Meyer doubled and Tess Smiley reached with a single to account for Haverford’s only hits. SPRINGFIEL­D 7, STRATH HAVEN 4 » The Cougars (7-5, 7-5) busted out for five runs in the fifth inning and held on as the host Panthers made a valiant comeback attempt in the bottom of the seventh. Caitlin Chambers was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, Jordan Galloway added two hits, a run and an RBI, and Sam Ciasullo was the winning pitcher.

Elizabeth Kane ripped a three-run homer for Haven. RADNOR 11, HARRITON 0 » Tess Massaro pitched a fiveinning no-hitter with four strikeouts for the Raiders (7-7, 6-7). Quinn Tobias was a perfect 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. RIDLEY 10, LOWER MERION 0 » Morgan Chapman excelled from the circle and at the dish for the Green Raiders. Chapman pitched a one-hit shutout with five strikeouts and smacked a home run. Alexa Moore also had a dinger and Sammy Williams and Madison Chapman chipped in with two hits apiece. PENNCREST 11, MARPLE NEWTOWN 2 » Senior night was a big success for the Lions (9-5, 9-4). Julia Eckels showed the way with three hits, including two triples, to go with four RBIs and three runs scored.

Emma Stauffer crushed a long ball and Kira Sbandi finished 3-for-3 with two doubles and three runs scored. Maya Hartman pitched a three-hit complete game.

Max Safanov got things started by winning the No. 1 singles match in straight sets and the doubles tandem of Robert Frigerio and Colton Merkowitz only dropped a single game in the second doubles match as Radnor defeated Methacton, 5-0 in

the first round of tournament.

The only difficulty for the Raiders came in the 3 singles match as Alex Weiss won the first set, and pulled out a 7-5 triumph in the second.

In the Ches-Mont League: WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 7, SUN VALLEY 0 » Hunter Hoffman and Sean Setnick hung tough in the No. 2 doubles match, falling 3-6, 6-2, 1-6 for the Vanguards.

In nonleague action: RIDLEY 5, ACADEMY PARK 1 » Freshman Rob Geddes won a 10-4 tiebreaker in the second set of the No. 2 singles match while all three of the Raiders’ doubles matches were won in straight sets including Collin Vanatta and James Pewdo’s win the No. 3 match.
