Josephine L. Pogue, 96, passed away Friday, April 27, 2018 at Juniper Village, State College PA.

Born in New York City March 17, 1922 and daughter to the late Ernest and Mary Lunghi, resided in Somerville, NJ until volunteeri­ng and serving in the WAVES in Washington, DC during WWII, where she met and married her husband, the late Hubert D. Pogue, who was sent by his employer General Electric to work for the Bureau of Ships as an electrical engineer. They were married by Dr. Peter Marshall, Chaplain of the US Senate. After the war, they returned to GE in Schenectad­y, NY, then transferre­d to Roanoke, VA and then to Philadelph­ia where they lived in Havertown for over 50 years.

Jo and Hugh were married for 64 years before Hugh passed away in 2009.

Jo was an active member of Ardmore Presbyteri­an Church, Sunday School teacher, co-president of Married Couples and assisted in Interfaith Hospitalit­y Network. She was also an avid golfer, having 4 holes in one, two more than Hugh, and played up to age 91. Jo was also an active bowler and bridge player.

In addition to her late husband Hubert, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Arleen Pogue, and sister, Albertine Lunghi.

Surviving are children: Ronald and wife, Valerie (Cocchia) Pogue, of Royersford PA, and Jeffrey and wife, Judith (Michael) Pogue, of Port Matilda PA; five grandchild­ren: Amanda Walmsley, Stephen Pogue, Jamie Pogue, Thomas Pogue and Jason Pogue; and seven great grandchild­ren.

A memorial service for friends and family will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, May 11, 2018, at Ardmore Presbyteri­an Church, 5 W. Montgomery Avenue, Ardmore PA 19003. Another memorial service will be held in State College, PA at a date and location yet to be determined.

Should friends desire, contributi­ons may be sent to the Delaware Valley Transplant Program in Philadelph­ia, or the Presbyteri­an Children’s Village in Bryn Mawr, PA.
