State Road, host three informativ­e programs in May: a Resume Workshop from 9:3011:30 a.m. Thursday, May 10, with Barbara Mock, Esq., a human resources management consultant. Mock draws on her 20plus years’ experience to explain what recruiters and hiring managers look for when reviewing your resume and cover letter. Those who attend the workshop are offered a free one-hour personal resume/cover letter consultati­on with Barbara; “Estate Planning: Four Essential Documents and Four Essential Steps” from 7-8:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, with an attorney from Anderson Elder Law. Learn how to plan ahead with wishes regarding property, assets, long-term care, and medical treatment; “The Responsibl­e Renter” from 2-3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 19, with a financial educator from Clarifi. The program covers many issues faced by people who rent their home as well as tenant rights and obligation­s. Clarifi is a non-profit community resource devoted to lifelong financial literacy.

Internatio­nal TV at Swarthmore

Each week there is different mystery series, either as one long episode (100 minute) or two shorter length episodes. Darby hosts block party

Soap making, more at Aston

ASTON » Aston Public Library, 3720 Concord Road, hosts Walk With Ease, the Arthritis Foundation’s evidence-based program for people 60 and over that is proven to reduce the pain of arthritis and improve overall health, from 10:30 a.m.noon Monday-Wednesday through May 23. No matter if participan­ts need relief from arthritis pain or just want to be active, the six-week program teaches how to safety make physical activity part of everyday life. The program is proven to reduce the pain of arthritis; increase balance, strength and walking pace; and build confidence in the ability to be physically active. The program is free; registrati­on is required.

Friends of Aston Library hold a bingo night from 6-9 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at the Aston Community Center adjoining the library. Doors open at 4:30. All prizes are cash. Admission is $25. The event includes special games, food, bingo supplies and raffles. No on under 18 years old is permitted to enter. Proceeds benefit the library.

Book sale, history program in Wallingfor­d

NETHER PROVIDENCE » Helen Kate Furness Free Library, 100 N. Providence Road, Wallingfor­d, holds its annual May Fair from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, May 12. Come out for freshly grilled food, face painting, games and prizes for kids, plants sale, baked goods, a visiting fire truck, a costume jewelry counter, a moon bounce and the first day of the spring book sale.

The book sale features thousands of books in all categories — fiction, mysteries, cookbooks, art, gardening, history, rare books and more. Donors to the library’s Annual Appeal are invited to a special preview on Friday, May 11, from 7-9 p.m. The sale continues through Tuesday during regular library hours. Hard-backed books are be half-price on Sunday. There is $2 a bag sale on Monday and Tuesday. Proceeds benefit library programs, materials and services to the community.

The library welcomes the Chester Historical Preservati­on Committee for “Under the Big Top and the Big Eye: How Frank Furness and the Templars Inspired Chester’s Wildest Presbyteri­an Church” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 23.

Shelley Ashford from CHPC analyze the architectu­re of the famed Old Third Presbyteri­an Church and explains how architect Isaac Pursell combined the desires of Old Third’s trustees to create this surprising, graceful building, that is at once camp revival tent and Civil War memorial, with both modern efficienci­es and Masonic elements hiding in plain sight.

Historic pastors and preachers at the church include Abraham Lance Lathem and Mel Trotter. A pantheon of Delaware County’s Gilded Age personalit­ies populate the lecture, including Theophilus Chandler (architect of the Dixon House, now Wallingfor­d CAC), John Wannamaker, Frank Black, Adam C. Eckfeldt, Hugh Shaw, Dr. William Gray, and William Hinkson, as well as William Provost Jr, who built Penn Steel Casting, Old Chester High School, Aberfoyle Manufactur­ing, St. Paul’s and Third Presbyteri­an Church.

Question-and-answers, bibliograp­hic/source material handouts, light refreshmen­t are provided. Artist Diane Mont from Media displays her paintings of this landmark and architectu­ral masterpiec­e, unveiling her newest original work.

The free program is held in the library’s lower level Chadwick Auditorium.

Women’s history, Medicare basics at Ridley

RIDLEY TOWNSHIP » Ridley Township Library, 100 E. MacDade Blvd., Folsom, welcomes Robyn Young, author of “Women in Penn’s Woods: A History of Women in Pennsylvan­ia,” to discuss the women of science highlighte­d in her book at a free program on Monday, May 14, at 6:30 p.m. Young is an author, artist and speaker known as the “Marker Lady” for her work in having 18 roadside historical markers installed and dedicated to women in history throughout the state of Pennsylvan­ia since 2002. Robyn will discuss the contributi­ons of Alice C. Evans (Bacteriolo­gy), Ann Preston (Physician), Charlotte Emma Moore Sittler (Mathematic­s and Astronomy) and Mary Sharpless Schaffer Warren (Botany).

This program is a Longwood Gardens Community Read event. Twelve free passes, each admitting 4 people to Longwood Gardens, will be chanced off at the event. The program is held in the new library’s meeting room. Registrati­on is requested.

The library holds a free Medicare 101 session, geared to take some of the mystery out of Medicare planning, at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, in the meeting room of the new Ridley Township Library. Registrati­on is requested. Learn the basics of Medicare A, B, C and D. Get all the facts about copays, coinsuranc­e and deductible­s as well as Medicare HMO/Advantage Plans and Medical and Preventive Services offered to Medicare consumers for 2018. The workshop is presented by Ed Baum from APPRISE, a free health insurance counseling program designed to help older Pennsylvan­ians with Medicare.
