Visit senior art show May 19

CHESTER » Senior Community Services’ Chester Senior Center, 721 Hayes St., holds its seventh annual Art Show from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, May 19. The event displays various art works of older adult artists in the community. Mediums include original oil and water color, pencil drawing, Card Stamping, jewelry, and ceramic arts. Pray for pipeline safety May 19

MEDIA » Borough houses of worship hold an Interfaith Prayer Walk for Pipeline Safety at 2 p.m. May 19. The non-violent, faithbased walk goes from Providence Friends Meeting House, 105 N. Providence Road, Media, to the First United Methodist Church, 350 W. State St., Media. The walk is less than a mile long. At the beginning, end, and a few spots on the route, a prayer is be read by members of different faiths. The goal of the prayer walk is to heighten the awareness of everyone along the way of the risks associated with the natural gas liquids in the Mariner East pipelines in Chester and Delaware counties and to pray for the safety of all the communitie­s along its path.

Sexual harassment workshop at Neumann

ASTON » Neumann University’s Center for Leadership hosts a workshop on sexual harassment in the workplace from 1-4 p.m. Tuesday, May 22. Employment law attorneys and human resource profession­als provide informatio­n on issues related to sexual harassment including the current landscape, employee rights, and best practices for employers related to training, establishi­ng office policies, putting in place reporting structures, and reviewing complaints. A mock sexual harassment deposition and question-and-answer panel are held following the panelists’ individual presentati­ons.

“With the increased media focus on sexual harassment, many employees and employers want to make sure they are taking the proper steps to protect individual rights while maintainin­g regular business operations,” said Danielle McNichol, General Counsel of Neumann University and Director of the Center for Leadership. “This program will provide both employees and employers with valuable informatio­n on sexual harassment in the workplace, including rights, responsibi­lities, and best practices.”

The program, entitled “Sexual Harassment and You: What Every Employer and Employee Needs to Know,” is free and open to the public. It is held in the John J. Mullen Communicat­ion Center within the Bruder Life Center on Neumann University’s campus. Human relations profession­als can earn continuing HR education credits through the HR Certificat­ion Institute. The panel consists of profession­als in employment law and human relations who offer their expert insights on the current landscape, legal issues and rights, and effective employer polices related to sexual harassment in the workplace. Scheduled panelists for this event include Lori Armstrong Halber and Rick Grimaldi, attorneys at the law firm of Fisher Phillips; David Hackett, an attorney at the law firm of Cozen O’Connor; and Alison Diflorio, Managing Partner, Human Capital Management, Exude, Inc.

Attorneys who attend can obtain Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit through the Delaware County Bar Associatio­n and human relations profession­als can earn continuing HR education credits through the HR Certificat­ion Institute.

Country Gardeners host tea

MIDDLETOWN » The Country Gardeners of Lima presents a tea event from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, at Tyler Arboretum, 515 Painter Road, Media. Visit the event for tea, scones, tea sandwiches, desserts, and raffles. There is also a “Hat Contest” for other surprise gifts.

Cost of $35 includes free admission after the tea to tour Tyler Arboretum grounds for a self-guided tour (a $13 value) to “drink in” all the spring beauty. The event benefits Tyler Arboretum, Colonial Plantation, Girl Scouts and the Natural Lands Trust Crow’s Nest Summer Camp.
