Man snatches purse from mom walking her baby
UPPER DARBY » Township police are looking for a man who snatched a purse from a woman who was taking her infant child out for a walk.
Around 6:30 p.m. on May 9, the 33-year-old victim was pushing her 10-monthold son in a stroller on the first block of Glendale Road when a man ran up from behind her and took her red handbag. Upper Darby Police Superintendent Mike Chitwood said the woman had placed her purse on top of the stroller as she attended to her son.
“She stops to do something with the baby and this young male comes up and snatches the handbag and takes off running,” he said.
Chitwood said surveillance video from a private residence shows the young suspect following her before he ran up from behind and took the bag, which contained money, makeup and other personal effects. It happened so fast that Sabur did not have time to react.
“He was gone in a second,” said Chitwood.
The mother and her son were not injured in the snatching.
Chitwood called the suspect a dirtball who committed a horrible crime of opportunity.
“When is safe, safe? Walking a 10-month-old baby you think you’re safe, but you’re not,” he said. “It’s a sad commentary on society when a mother is walking her 10-month-old baby and becomes victimized.”
Police are investigating the purse snatching. Anyone with tips are asked to contact Upper Darby Police at 610-734-7684.
