Lindgren pulls off distance triple again

Episcopal Academy’s Elias Lindgren pulled off the trifecta in the distance runs at the Inter-Ac League Championsh­ips, one week after accomplish­ing the same feat at the Delaware County Championsh­ips.

Lindgren took top honors in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 to help the Churchmen take fourth place in the team standings with 88.50 points.

Elsewhere for Episcopal, Chris Zimmerman, Chris Bassett, Malcolm Fink and Jack Bush broke a five-year meet record in the 4 x 400 with a time of 3:24.04. In the field events, Harry Riley bested the competitio­n in the javelin with a throw off 106 feet, six inches. Adam Klein, an All-Delco football lineman, won gold in the shot put (51 feet, seven inches).

Bush and Zimmerman placed second and third, respective­ly, in the 400.

The Haverford School received winning performanc­es by Daiyaan Hawkins (100, 200) and Dan Whaley (400). The Fords’ 4 x 800 relay shattered the meet record with a time of 8:26.72.

Mark Gregory was runner-up in the 800 for the Fords. Will Merhige (1,600), Caleb Reed (300 hurdles) and Petey Lemmon (shot put) all claimed bronze medals. CATHOLIC LEAGUE CHAMPIONSH­IPS » Derrick Patrick of Cardinal O’Hara claimed first place in the long jump (22-7), while finishing third in the 300 hurdles and fourth in the 100 hurdles. Also for O’Hara, Ayotunde Akano won the triple jump and was sixth in the high jump. Tom Wertz took sixth place in both the shot put and discus.

O’Hara placed fifth in the team standings with 46 points. La Salle captured the team title with 192 points.

Girls Track

Cardinal O’Hara’s Elizabeth Mancini captured gold in the 1,600 for the second year in a row at the Catholic League Track & Field Championsh­ips Saturday.

Mancini, the 2017 Daily Times Runner of the Year in cross country also claimed first place in the 3,200. Despite Mancini’s strong individual effort, the Lions saw their 12-year championsh­ip run fall at the hands Neumann-Goretti. Leading the way for the Saints was Collingdag­e resident Sydney Townsend, who won the 100 and 300 hurdles. Townsend broke the meet record in the 300 hurdles. Monsignor Bonner & Archbishop Prendergas­t placed third and the Lions were fourth

For O’Hara, Jesikah Boykin took third place in the 400 and fourth in the 200. Rachel Bonfini was fourth in both the long and triple jumps, and fifth in the high jump.

Bonner & Prendergas­t’s Hannah Oropollo won the pole vault for a second straight season. She also placed sixth in both the 400 and triple jump.

Hannah Bierling topped the field in the both the discus and shot put for the Pandas. Hierling was third in the javelin. Elsewhere for the Pandas, Jenna Rastatter claimed second place in the 3,200 and third in the mile. Samantha Gliwa was third in the 3,200 and fifth in the mile. INTER-AC CHAMPIONSH­IPS » Allasandra Ciampi (100 hurdles), Jessica Schneider (800) and Emma Kichula (triple jump) all were victorious to help Notre Dame take fifth place in the team standings with 75 points. Schneider was second in the 1,600 and third in the 3,200.

Episcopal Academy, which claimed fourth place (79 points), broke a meet record in the 4 x 800 with a time of 9:59.00. Kathleen Anderson was second in both the 100 and 400 for the Churchwome­n. Katie Brian and Luca Mamula finished third in the long jump and shot put, respective­ly.

Sanaya Watts of Agnes Irwin was third in the 800.

Baseball

Jared Delliprisc­oli laced a bases-clearing triple to break the game open and starter Tim Convery pitched four strong innings as Interboro cruised past Ridley, 102, in a nonleague contest.

Delliprisc­oli’s three-base knock gave the Bucs a commanding lead in the bottom of the sixth. Aaron Stankiewic­z went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Mike Ventura scored three runs. ARCHBISHOP CARROLL 7, GARNET VALLEY 3 » Tyler Kehoe, Dan Crossan, Owen Evans and Jake Kelchner all collected two hits to pace the Patriots (14-3) over the visiting Jaguars. Kehoe smacked a two-run triple, while Crossan and Evans both had two RBIs. Kamal Gray pitched five innings to get the win.

Cole Palis led the Jags with two hits and two runs scored. Nick Wiesendang­er drove in two runs.

Softball

Allison Martin went the distance from the circle, allowing three hits and striking out three, and helped her cause with a pair of singles and two runs scored to lead Bonner & Prendergas­t to a 7-1 nonleague win over Marple Newtown.

Madison Thompson was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs for the Pandas (135). Neeve Spellman singled and scored a run, and Erin Grogan chipped in with a hit and an RBI.

Girls Lacrosse

Freshman Sarah Groark tallied a hat trick to help Episcopal Academy to an 11-10 win over Moorestown (N.J.).

Olivia Cunningham added two goals and two assists for the Churchwome­n.

In other nonleague action: MOORESTOWN (N.J.) 10, AGNES IRWIN 5 » Sophomore Natalie Pansini scored career goal No. 100, but it wasn’t enough for the Owls. Pansini is the second player from Agnes Irwin to reach that milestone this week. UNIONVILLE 15, RADNOR 10 » Molly May collected four goals and two assists to lead the Raiders. Cate Cox pitched in with three goals.
