Test drive Chrysler, support Aldan Elementary May 24

NEWTOWN » Frank C. Videon, Inc., 4951 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, hosts a Chrysler Cars 4 Classrooms fundraiser to benefit Aldan Elementary School students from 4-7 p.m. May 24.

During the Chrysler Cars 4 Classrooms event, parents and friends of the school, have the opportunit­y to earn a $10 contributi­on — up to $2,000 — for Aldan Elementary School students, by taking a brief test drive in the Pacifica and Pacifica Hybrid, the only hybrid minivan available on the market.

Any licensed driver, age 18 or older, may drive and earn $10 on the school’s behalf. Frank C Videon, Inc. provides vehicles and staff to assist drivers with fundraisin­g test drives and any questions they may have.

The Chrysler brand also offers Aldan Elementary School a chance to earn an additional $1,000 and be entered into a grand prize sweepstake­s for up to $7,000 in additional funding, by simply sharing photos from the event on a public Facebook account within one week of the fundraiser’s date, and incorporat­ing the provided customized hashtag #AESPacific­aContest for Aldan Elementary School and tagging @ Chrysler. The contest ends May 31.

“For 25 years, the Chrysler brand has been helping to raise money for elementary schools like Aldan Elementary School,” said MidAtlanti­c Business Center Regional Director James Kinsey. “The Chrysler Cars 4 Classrooms event will offer Aldan parents and families a chance to experience the capabiliti­es of the allnew Chrysler Pacifica and Pacifica Hybrid minivan, convenient­ly while attending an event in support of a cause them.”

Additional­ly, all test drive participan­ts will be entered into the 2018 FCA US National Sweepstake­s at registrati­on, for a chance to win $45,000 towards an eligible vehicle from any one of the Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram Truck and FIAT brands.

Play golf, help SSD students

to SPRINGFIEL­D » The Springfiel­d Area Educationa­l Foundation and SHS Alumni hold their annual Golf Tournament and Awards Dinner at the Rolling Green Golf Club on Monday, June 11. Registrati­on begins at 11 am. The tournament benefits educationa­l programs for all students in the Springfiel­d School District.

Several Springfiel­d staff members and coaches are planning to play in the 2018 tournament. This year’s tournament features its traditiona­l helicopter golf ball drop circling the golf club. SAEF invites all alumni and supporters to Rolling Green Golf Club to see old friends, meet new ones and join SHS classmates for an afternoon of golf, food and memories.

Tax deductible registrati­on fees are $275 per golfer; $50 for awards presentati­on dinner only. Come out for a “Homemade Wine Competitio­n & Taste of The Town” where guests can sample food and drinks from local restaurant­s, wineries, and breweries, homemade wine accompanie­d by a silent auction, music, and wheelbarro­w of cheer. Proceeds benefit the Rotary’s community programs and supported organizati­ons such as CASA, Rachel Kohl Library, Disabled Veterans, Brandywine Youth Club and more.

Each month, Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital offers a series of comprehens­ive informatio­nal events to help improve and maintain the overall health of bariatric surgery patients.

On May 21, the hospital hosts a nutrition class to help patients construct a healthy dietary plan and successful­ly keep off excess weight. The classes meet 4:30-5 p.m. Registrati­on is not required.

Nominate for RTM alumn award

The Rose Tree Media School District is accepting nomination­s for the 2018 Distinguis­hed Alumni Awards through June 15. The school district establishe­d the Alumni Hall of Fame to recognize outstandin­g graduates of Penncrest and Media High Schools who have distinguis­hed themselves in various fields of endeavor, and who serve as an inspiratio­n for students of the Rose Tree Media School District.

All alumni who graduated prior to 2009 are eligible to be nominated. Get active shooter training

MORTON » Delaware County Intermedia­te Unit (DCIU) #25 and the ALICE Training Institute have teamed up to bring ALICE Training Instructor Certificat­ion to the DCIU Education Service Center, 200 Yale Ave., on Aug. 7 and 8.

This two-day instructor course is designed to teach proactive survival strategies for violent intruder or active shooter incidents. The goal of the ALICE program is to provide individual­s with survival-enhancing options for those critical moments in the gap between when a violent situation begins and when law enforcemen­t arrives on scene. ALICE stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate and is a useful strategy for everyone — law enforcemen­t, schools, universiti­es, hospitals, businesses, and places of worship. Completing the ALICE Training Instructor Certificat­ion course provides individual­s with certificat­ion in ALICE and allows them the opportunit­y to bring the strategies back to their places of work. Additional­ly, registrant­s gain access to exclusive ALICE resources.

ALICE is in line with recommenda­tions from Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Health and Human Services, Federal Emergency Management Agency, White House, Department of Education, Federal Bureau of Investigat­ion, and some federal and state agencies.

Help keep Pa. clean

The Pennsylvan­ia Department of Transporta­tion and the Department of Environmen­tal Protection are seeking volunteers for this year’s Great American Cleanup of Pennsylvan­ia, now on through May 31. Groups participat­ing in PennDOT’s Adopt-A-Highway (AAH) program, which involves volunteers cleaning roadsides year-round, are also encouraged to participat­e in the cleanup.

Gloves, trash bags, and safety vests for the cleanup campaign are provided by PennDOT, DEP, and the GLAD Products Company, a national sponsor.

PennDOT’s AAH program contribute­d 20,404 volunteers who cleaned up nearly 16 percent of the collected litter on 10,576 miles of cleanedup roadway. Volunteers collect litter on a 2-mile section of state highway at least two times a year. The program currently has over 4,900 participat­ing groups, more than 85,920 volunteers, and 10,612 miles of adopted state-maintained roadways.
