New commander takes reins of Springfiel­d Legion post

SPRINGFIEL­D » An audience of over 50 gathered in the Springfiel­d Township Building on Wednesday, May 2, for an Springfiel­d American Legion Post 227 Change of Command. Richard Debany has assumed command of the post from Rocco Polidoro. The crowd included members of the post, their spouses, and the Polidoro and Debany families.

Polidoro has recently retired from his Insurance firm and has decided to step down from the Springfiel­d American Post 227 Commander position. A position he held for 25 years.

Several post members stepped to the podium recounting many good deeds and the selfless service performed by Polidoro in his 25 year tenure. Before taking on the responsibi­lity of post commander, Polidoro had been a member of the organizati­on for almost nine years, making him a member of the Springfiel­d American Legion Post 227 for almost 34 years.

The members of Post 227 presented Polidoro with a plaque in recognitio­n of his dedicated service and commitment to the community.

Post Commander Debany gave a new commitment for the organizati­on, to extend renewed communicat­ions to the community and to expand its presence within Springfiel­d through various activities.

Commander Debany, a colonel in the U.S. Army who has served on active duty for the past 26 years, is eager to serve the community and its veterans as the new leader of Springfiel­d American Legion Post 227.
