Chester cops seek clues in separate shootings

CHESTER » Gunfire left two men injured in separate incidents just hours apart Wednesday and city detectives are asking the public to help identify the shooters.

Officers were first dispatched to the area of Ninth Street and Morton Avenue at 11:27 a.m. for a report of a shooting. They discovered a man on the roadway in the 800 block of Morton Avenue with a crowd forming in the area, according to a release from Detective Division Captain James P. Chubb.

The victim, identified as 20-year-old Luis Diaz-Figueroa, was suffering from at least two gunshot wounds to the chest, according to the release. Paramedics from CrozerChes­ter Medical Center treated DiazFiguer­oa on site, then transporte­d him to the hospital where he received further treatment. The victim was listed in fair condition as of Thursday night.

Police were again dispatched at 5:13 p.m. for a report of shots fired in the vicinity of Fifth and Franklin streets, but were unable to find a victim or crime scene, according to the release.

Officers then received a notificati­on from Crozer of a walk-in gunshot victim and headed to the hospital. The victim, identified as 19-year-old Claudius Martin-Rios, suffered a gunshot wound to his left arm. He said the incident took place in the 200 block of Concord Avenue, where officers did locate a crime scene, according to the release.

Martin-Rios was treated for his injuries and was listed in good condition.
