100 Years Ago – 1918:

Mothers, wives, sisters and daughters of men in the service will parade on Wednesday night. The route of parade follows: Format the Six Regiment Armory at 7:10. Proceed to Welsh Street, to Edgmont Avenue, to Market, to Market Square, countermar­ch on Market to Edgmont Avenue, to Seventh, to Sproul, to Young Women’s Christian Associatio­n and dismiss.

75 Years Ago – 1943: A complete anti-McClure ticket will seek to capture important city-county row offices at the September primary election. One of the county’s outstandin­g Republican leaders announced that plans are being formulated to break the strangle-hold of former state Sen. John J. McClure on the local Republican Party. “We feel that there are enough decent Republican­s in every section of Delaware County to defeat the McClure machine which has controlled politics for many years and within the last decade particular­ly has given the party an unsavory reputation not only locally but throughout Pennsylvan­ia,” the spokesman said.

50 Years Ago – 1968:

Land buying in Concord Township is not restricted to the 550-acre site proposed for a Delaware County airport. No one is sure – or will say – what will be developed of most of these parcels. But at least one thing known about the things to come soon to this predominan­tly rural community of 4,500 residents. It is a 1,400seat indoor movie theater to be erected this year on the northwest corner of Baltimore Pike (Route 1) and North Brinton Lake Road.

25 Years Ago – 1993: As the days dwindle down to a precious few at St. James High School, the rules have been relaxed a bit. On the day that all outstandin­g detentions were pardoned and a dressdown day was announced, the entire student body was inducted into the St. James Alumni Associatio­n – even the freshmen.

10 Years Ago – 2008: A $5,000 reward is being offered for informatio­n about the suspects who attacked a Marple man in his driveway early Friday after luring him outside by setting off his car’s alarm. No motive has been released. However, Detective Barry Williams said he believes the suspects may have set off the car alarm in an attempt to lure the victim out of his house and attack him. The two assailants eventually fled the scene, but not before the victim inflicted physical injuries on them.
