Cabrera suffers season-ending injury, Tigers lose to Twins

DETROIT » Miguel Cabrera ruptured his left biceps tendon Tuesday night, an injury that will sideline the Detroit slugger for the rest of the season, and the Tigers lost 6-4 to the Minnesota Twins.

The two-time AL MVP will have surgery this week, the Tigers said. Cabrera, playing his 12th game since missing 26 with a hamstring strain, exited in the third inning and underwent an MRI during the game.

Nationals All-Star second baseman Daniel Murphy made his season debut after recovering from right knee surgery on Oct. 20. He was 0 for 4 with two strikeouts as the DH.

BRAVES 8, METS 2» Ozzie Albies hit a grand slam and Freddie Freeman homered during a six-run sixth inning, and Atlanta beat reeling New York. Braves starter Mike Foltynewic­z pitched five scoreless innings, but left the game after batting in the fifth. The team said he has triceps tightness.

PADRES 4, CARDINALS 2 » Eric Hosmer homered, San Diego’s bullpen took a perfect game into the sixth inning and the Padres beat St. Louis for their 10th win in 14 games.

Padres reliever Matt Strahm started the bullpen game and retired nine batters on 36 pitches, including four strikeouts.

MARLINS 3, GIANTS 1 » Trevor Richards pitched six effective innings to lead Miami over San Francisco.

RAYS 4, BLUE JAYS 1 » Wilson Ramos homered, six Tampa Bay relievers combined for a fivehitter and the Rays beat Toronto.

With right-handers Chris Archer and Jake Faria on the disabled list, Tampa Bay is using relievers to start three times through the rotation.
