PHILADELPHIA » Samuel Cook of Newtown Square served as student speaker at the College of Science and Technology’s ceremony for spring 2018 commencement excercises. He graudated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a bachelor of science in mathematics and computer science, a certificate in data science and a minor in German.
Cook was a peer tutor in the Computer and Information Sciences Deapartment, a peer menor and an ambassador for theTemple Honors Program and president of the Temple University German Society. His research as an undergraduate included investgiating the structure of convolutional neural networks in Associate Professor Richard Souvenir’s computer vision lab, which are used for image recognition, and working in the bioengineering lab of Professor Peter Lelkes where he researched an electrospinning robot for use for use in custom bandage generation. His most recent summer internship was with J.P. Morgan Chase in its Technology Analysit Program.
Cook will move to Heidelberg, Germany, to take a job as a Big data Enginner for SAP. He plans to evenutally attend graudate school and earn a Ph.D.
