Russian conductor Rozhdestvensky dies at 87
MOSCOW » Noted Russian conductor Gennady Rozhdestvensky, who directed orchestras in Moscow, Stockholm, Vienna and London, has died at age 87.
Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Conservatory announced his death Saturday. It did not give details on where he died or the cause.
In a career spanning more than 60 years, Rozhdestvensky served stints as principal conductor of the Bolshoi Theater Orchestra and as chief conductor of the Stockholm Philharmonic, the Vienna Symphony and the BBC Symphony.
Geri Umstetter (nee McElhenney), of Broomall, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2018.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late John and Mabel (nee Cripps) McElhenney.
She is survived by her sons, William and Robert (and his wife Lauren), and her loving partner of 30 years, Joseph Cannon. She is also survived by her grandsons, Michael, William, and Joseph; her granddaughter, Amanda; 7 great-grandchildren; her aunt, Ellamay Boyce; her dear friend of 60 years, Joyce Garrison; and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Funeral Service 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Marvil Funeral Home, 1110 Main Street, Darby. There will be a Viewing Tuesday evening 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday morning 1011 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial at SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
