RIDLEY PARK » Ridley Park Library offers a free Zumba Fitness class from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, in borough hall, 105 E. Ward St. No experience is necessary and the class is appropriate for all levels of fitness. Licensed instructor Megan Walsh runs the class, which is held in an air conditioned room.
Zumba is an easy and fun dance-based fitness program that incorporates Latin rhythms such as salsa and merengue. Megan Walsh is a licensed Zumba instructor who teaches in Folsom and West Chester.
This event is free; donations for the Friends of The Ridley Park Library are accepted. Registration is required. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and sneakers, and bring a bottle of water. For information and registration, call the Ridley Park Library at 610583-7207.
Springfield launches summer reading
SPRINGFIELD » Springfield Township Library launches its summer reading program, Summer Quest, with a kick-off at 10 a.m. Friday, June 22. The Center for Aquatic Sciences at Adventure Aquarium presents “Swamp Songs and Marsh Melodies” at the Springfield Township Building, 50 Powell Road. Families are invited to see ocean animals up close and learn how animals call to each other. Take this opportunity to learn about sea life and animal calls from horse shoe crabs, alligators, and frogs. Children will have an opportunity to touch sea animals such as a horseshoe crab. Sciencetellers at Ridley Park
RIDLEY PARK » Ridley Park Library holds its summer kickoff program by Sciencetellers at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 22, at borough hall, 105 E. Ward St. The title of the show is “Wild West: the mystery of the golden piano.” A legendary bank-robbing outlaw is back in town — Sciencetellers and the audience

Concert, author talk, Flyers at Ridley
RIDLEY TOWNSHIP » Ridley Township Library, 100 E. MacDade Blvd., Folsom, holds a free concert from Vincent James and friends at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 21. James is the co-founder of Keep Music Alive, an organization formed to promote the value of music. The theme of the concert is Make Music Day, universally celebrated around the world on June 21. Launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, it is now held on the same day in more than 800 cities in 120 countries. Performers include Julia Zane, Ray Naylor, Kaleigh Kahan, Grace Otley and Vincent James. Guests can enjoy guitar, piano, violin and voices performing pop, country, folk, and show tunes. Registration is requested. The library welcomes Lisa Thomas-Laury, former co-anchor of the noon and the 5 p.m. newscast at WPVI-TV, ABC, for an author talk at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 30. During her long career, Lisa covered politics, parades and the wedding of Charles and Diana, and interviewed locals and celebrities. She had to leave the job she loved because of a mysterious illness. She was treated and returned to work part time for close to a decade. Then, in 2016, she had a second bone marrow transplant and had to retire.
Learn about Lisa’s experience as one of the very few African-American women to anchor in the Philadelphia market and her encountering and eventually prevailing over the challenge of a rare autoimmune disorder.
Copies of Ms. Thomas Laury’s book, “On Camera and Off: When the News is Good and When It’s Not,” is available for sale and for signing by the author. Registration is required.
The Philadelphia Flyers’ Summer Community Caravan visits the library from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 20. The event includes: an inflatable hockey rink hosting scrimmages and skills contests, a Flyers shot on goal inflatable, a bungee run inflatable, and tailgate games. Guests can meet Flyers alumni, who are signing autographs. There are also Flyers giveaways for everyone in attendance, an enter-to-win contest for signed Flyers items, and appearances by Flyers personalities. The event takes place in the lower parking lot of the library.

Summer reading starts at Aston
ASTON » Aston Public Library, 3720 Concord Road, holds its Summer Reading Program and rewards again for the kids this summer. This year’s theme is “Libraries Rock.” The big performances are Wednesdays at 1 p.m. in the gym unless noted. The first performances are: • June 20, Robin Bady. Award-winning storyteller Robin Bady draws from her own experiences as well as the wealth of literary, folk, historic and local tales and songs to create age appropriate “stories from the heart.” Join her and go on a journey full of joy and music, life and imagination as guests listen, laugh, shiver and have lots and lots of fun. • June 27, Ari Paul Felber. The Ari Paul Felber children’s magic show is fun, funny, entertaining and interactive. Tricks and humor go hand in hand when Ari is around. The show is for all ages.
• July 5 (Thursday at 1 p.m.), Peter Moses. For more than 20 years, musician Peter Moses has performed for groups of children, festivals, libraries, schools and major children’s music venues. Peter’s concerts are highly participatory, funny and upbeat. Performances combine interactive singalongs with original folk & pop-rock for children. He accompanies himself on guitar, keyboards and harmonica. Peter has produced ten original music and song titles since 1990.

Climate change, live music at Haverford
HAVERFORD » Haverford Township Free Library, 1601 Darby Road, Havertown, teams up with the Haverford Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC) to present a “Do Something About Climate Change” series in June and July, starting with “Understanding Climate Change” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 19. Presenter Noel Smyth explains climate science in understandable terms. How does CO2 affect temperature? What is the evidence? How are climate models used and can they explain the observational record if human-based emissions of CO2 and other greenhouse gases are included? What if they are not included? What can we expect for future climate trends?
The series continues at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, with “Demystifying Buying Cheap Renewable Power.” This workshop shows guests in a
few simple steps how to shop for 100 percent renewable power, for a fixed rate generally below PECO’s price to compare. Learn how to avoid the pitfalls when the term expires.

The library again hosts The Sounds of Summer, a series of musical entertainment programs, at 7:30 p.m. the fourth Friday of the month in June, July and August in the parking lot. The series begins Friday, June 22, with Conjunto Philadelphia. The band performs the music of PreRevolutionary Cuba. Genres include Son, Cha-Cha-Chá and Bolero. The group’s main aspiration is to maintain the authenticity of the music while performing it in a way that pays homage to Cuba’s deep and treasured musical history.
The Philadelphia Mandolin and Guitar Ensemble performs July 27 with an eclectic repertoire consists of music from the 16th to the 21st Century. In
addition to their classical repertoire, they also have a keen interest in the folkloric music of the world. Jean Therapy concludes the series on Friday, Aug. 24. The band’s sound features jazz, rock, Latin and pop.

Kid’s programs at Prospect
PROSPECT PARK » All ages are welcomed to visit the Prospect Park Library, 720 Maryland Ave., announces the summer session of Monday night Snuggle Up For Storytime (for ages 3 and up) is now underway.
