Barbara Sue Algard Wright, 80 of West Chester, died June 19th 2018.

Barbara was born in Oxford Pa. to Norman and Sarah (Weller) Algard. She grew up in Norwood Pa. graduating from Glen-Nor High School in 1955. After moving to Prospect Park, Barbara became an active member of St. James Episcopal Church where she served on the Vestry, the Alter Guild, presided over countless pancake breakfasts and served as Superinten­dent of Sunday School, all while teaching the 6th grade Confirmati­on class.

Barbara volunteere­d at Prospect Park Elementary School as a Reading Aid. She held numerous positions on the Board of the Parent Teacher Associatio­n and was instrument­al in planning events and raising funds for the school at the annual May Day celebratio­n. Barbara became involved with the Sports Boosters at Interboro High School, even serving as President.

Barbara was an avid sports fan who was always up for attending her children’s or her grandchild­ren’s sporting events. She loved rooting for the Flyers, Eagles and particular­ly the Phillies. She could always tell you who was hot and who was not. Barbara loved playing cards, block parties, the occasional Michelob and the kids on Folsom Ave., where she became affectiona­tely known as Mom-Mom. She never met a dog, cat or baby that she could not charm. In recent years, Barbara enjoyed playing cards, bingo and attending special events at Pembrooke Nursing and Rehabilita­tion Center with her friends and her beloved sister in law Margaret “Pete” McCafferty.

Barbara is predecease­d by her parents, Norman U. Algard and Sarah (Weller) Algard sister Margaret P. Algard and brother Norman U. Algard Jr. She is survived by her son Michael (Regina) Wright, son Richard (Deborah) Wright, daughter Barbara Serratore, former son in law David Serratore, 8 grandchild­ren and 9 great grandchild­ren.

Services will be held for Barbara on June 30th at St. James Episcopal Church in Prospect Park, Pa. at 12:00 noon. The family will be receiving visitors at 10:30 A.M. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Providence Animal Center on Sandy Bank Rd. in Media.
