Winning Springfiel­d on a roll in Delco League

After struggling most of the season, things are looking up for the Springfiel­d Colonials.

Norm Donkin wielded the big bat and Bill Neill went the distance as Springfiel­d extended its winning streak in the Delco League with a 9-2 triumph over Middletown Tuesday night.

Donkin was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and one run scored. Joe Sheeran slugged a solo homer while going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. John Gorgone also had two hits to go along with three runs scored and one RBI.

Neill allowed two hits and fanned six in seven innings. That win came on the heels of a 13-2 triumph over Upper Darby Monday. In that game, Nate Booth Booth allowed three hits and two runs, and struck out four in five innings. Brandon DiChachio led the offense with two hits, two runs scored and one RBI. Michael Smith knocked in two runs and scored once while going 2-for-5 and Steve Trainer had one hit and three runs scored.

NARBERTH 10, UPPER DARBY 1 » Sean Spratt and Spencer Stokes were a combined 6-for-7 with three RBIs to help the Mudcats clinch a playoff berth.

Spratt went 3-for-4 and knocked in two runs. Stokes was 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Matt DeBarberie and Rich Tecco pitched in with two hits each. Chris Huette allowed five hits, one run, three walks and struck out six in five innings to get the win.

CHESTER 3, WAYNE 0 » Cole Davis, David Cohen, Jessie Kulp and Joe Burton combined on an 11-strikout, two-hitter to hand league-leading Wayne its second loss of the season.

Cohen pitched the second, third and four innings to get the win. Burton pitched a scoreless seventh to earn the save. Tyler Wenger ripped a two-run double in the first inning to put Chester in front. Pat Warrington singled home an insurance run in the fifth inning. Joe Cautillo was 2-for-2 with one run scored.

(2) 5 » Steve James settled down after a rough start and went the route to help Brookhaven sweep this best-of-three quarterfin­als series. Brookhaven takes on Highland Park in the semis.

James also a double, triple and one RBI. Steve Collicchio ripped a two-run double in the fourth inning to put Brookhaven in front to stay.

FOLCROFT 17, RIDLEY NALL 10 » AJ Vagliani collected three hits and four RBIs to help Folcroft even the best-of-3 quarterfin­al series. Taylor Moore reached base three times and knocked in three runs Joe Luczechzko stole two bases and scored three times, while Drew Piselli was on base four times.

Brandon Ortiz went the distance and fanned five to get the win. Game 3 is Thursday night at Ridley Nall.

Softball

The morning heat didn’t bother Ernie Devlin or John McGrath. They were a combined 9-for-10 as Ron Porter Browns topped Brothers Pizza, 13-11, in nine innings to advance to the Silver Division semifinals in the Brandywine Valley Senior Softball League.

Devlin went 5-for-5 and McGrath was 4-for-5. Dan MacDonald went the route to get the win. BOSS AUTOMOTIVE 6-11, GOSHEN 4-6 » Jim Singel and John Nitsche stroked five hits each in the Gold Division win. Mike Dalesio and Mike McGurk added four hits each.

Wayne Taylor and Charlie Harvey led the way for Goshen.

Basketball

Ben Kutafaris poured in 23 points to lead Duke’s Tavern to a 46-32 victory over Legacy Advisors in the senior division of the West Laurel Hill/ Springfiel­d Boys Summer League.

Billy Henderson scored eight points to pace DiBlase to the intermedia­te victory. Victor Ford’s eight points showed the way for Chick-fil-A.

Diving

Lily Horenkamp and Caleb Arnot swept the senior girls and boys competitio­n to lead Tinicum to a 25-20 Delco Diving League win over Springfiel­d Swim Club.

Horenkamp captured the senior girls with a score of 183.60. Arnot’s 159.55 was tops in the senior boys. Sarah Kerr took the junior girls (80.25) for Tinicum.

Tommy Tomney (57.4) won the novice and Nolan Murphy took first in the junior boys (84.35) for Springfiel­d. RIDLEY TOWNSHIP 26, RIDLEY PARK 19» Shane Eckler (junior boys, 120.75), Meghan Lynch (senior girls, 196.85) and Mason Beck (senior boys, 290.40) were the winners for Ridley Township.

Joey Weber (novice, 71.85) and Trinity Conover (junior girls, 127.15) took first for Ridley Park.
