Road work, closures scheduled around Delaware County

Travel restrictio­ns are scheduled on several sections of U.S. 1 in Delaware County next week. Travel will be restricted from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for tree trimming operations, according to Penn DOT. The work schedule is: • Wednesday, July 18 and Thursday, July 19, a singlelane closure is scheduled on northbound U.S. 1 between Ridley Creek Road and Orange Street in Upper Providence Township.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because slowdowns will occur during these tree removal operations. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Here’s a rundown on road work project that could cause delays across the county this week:

Aston, Middletown

• Lenni Road, closed with posted detour between Pennell and Llewellyn roads, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Saturday through July 20

Chester

• Chestnut Street, onramp to I-95 North ramp closed with posted detour, 24-hour detour through Aug. 31.

• West Ninth Street, lane restrictio­ns between Parker and Fulton streets, weekdays 9 a.m.-3 p.m. through July 27

• Melrose Avenue, closed with posted detour between 12th and 13th streets, 24-hours through Aug. 21

• Chestnut Street, onramp to I-95 North closed with posted detour, 24-hour detour through Aug. 31

• Ramp from Route 352 (Edgmont Avenue) to southbound Interstate 95 is scheduled to close weekdays beginning Monday, July 23, for fence installati­on as part of a project to rehabilita­te eight bridges over I-95 and CSX Railroad. The weekday closure will be in place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Friday, August 10. During constructi­on, motorists will be directed to use Route 352 (Edgmont Avenue), U.S. 13 (9th Street) and Kerlin Street to access southbound I-95.

Concord

• Thornton Road, lane restrictio­ns between Trimble Road and Colonial Circle, weekdays 9 a.m.-3 p.m. through Aug. 2

• Station Road, closed with posted detour between Concord Road and US 322, 24-hours through Oct. 20

• U.S. 322, period lane restrictio­ns between U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) and PA 261 (Foulk Road), 9 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays and possibly 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturdays, through Oct. 20

• Spring Valley Road, closed with posted detour between Fellowship Road and U.S. 322, 24-hour detour through Sept. 28

• Concord Road, lane closure between Cross Keys Drive and Mattson Road, weekdays 9 a.m.-3 p.m. July 10-17

Glenolden

• MacDade Boulevard, closed with posted detour between Dalmas and Werner avenues, 24-hour detour through Aug. 31

Haverford

• Manoa Road, closures between Darby Road and Naylors Run Road from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. July 16 and 17, for milling and paving. Local access will be maintained up to the constructi­on zone.

• Penn DOT reopened the new College Avenue bridge over the SEPTA railroad tracks and the adjacent culvert over Cobbs Creek in early June. Additional improvemen­ts remain to stain the bridge parapets and complete the widening and improvemen­t of the College Avenue and Haverford Road intersecti­on, including installati­on of new traffic signals and left turn lanes on College Avenue.

• Ellis Road, closed with posted detour between Darby and Lawrence roads, weekdays 9 a.m.-3 p.m. through July 27

Lower Chichester, Marcus Hook

• PA 452 (Market Street), reduced to a single lane between Ormand Street and 11th Street from 8 p.m.-5 a.m. July 14 and 15 for bridge work. Motorists can also expect to encounter periodic 15-minute traffic stoppages. All traffic during constructi­on will be controlled by flagging operations. A 17span reinforced concrete T-beam bridge is being replaced with a new four span box beam bridge. The new bridge will be 343 feet long, 40 feet wide, and will be built on a new alignment and widened to meet current design standards. Crews will also resurface and regrade new approaches to the bridge. Route 452 will continue to remain open to traffic during constructi­on except for two 28-day closures planned during later stages of constructi­on. The project is scheduled to finish in fall 2019.

Marcus Hook

Route 452 (Market Street) will be reduced to a single lane between Ormand Street and 11th Street on Saturday, July 21, and Sunday, July 22, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. as crews set bridge beams to replace the structure carrying Route 452 (Market Street) over Amtrak and SEPTA railroad tracks in Marcus Hook Borough and Lower Chichester Township. During this operation, motorists can also expect to encounter periodic 15-minute traffic stoppages.

Route 452 (Market Street) will continue to remain open to traffic during constructi­on except for two 28-day closures planned during later stages of constructi­on. The project is scheduled to finish in fall 2019. The bridge was built in 1925 and rehabilita­ted in 1995. The current structure is 656 feet long, 32 feet wide and carries an average of 8,700 vehicles a day.

Middletown

• U.S. 1 North and South (Baltimore Pike), lane closures between PA 352 and Oriole Avenue, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. between Lexington and Oriole avenues, weekdays July 9-20

• Baltimore Pike North and South, lane restrictio­ns between Lexington and Oriole avenues, weekdays 9 a.m.-3 p.m. July 9-20

Nether Providence

• East Brookhaven Road, lane closure between Avondale and Church roads, weekdays 9 a.m.-3 p.m. July 12-19

Radnor

• U.S. 30 (Lancaster Avenue) West, right lane closed between Ithan Avenue and PA 320, weekdays 9 a.m.-3 p.m. through Aug. 17

• PECO is planning weeknight lane restrictio­ns with flagging on Wayne Avenue between West Avenue and U.S. 30 (Lancaster Avenue) on Monday, July 16, through late September, from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning, for gas main installati­on.

Ridley Township

• PA 420 (Kedron Avenue), closed with posted detour between Wooland Avenue and MacDade Boulevard, 24-hour detour through Sept. 14

Springfiel­d

• West Springfiel­d Road, lane closure between Thomson Avenue and Kennerly Road, weekdays 9 a.m.-3 p.m. through Aug. 31, Plymouth Road and Old Marple Road, weekdays 9 a.m.-3 p.m. July 9-16

• West Sproul Road, lane closure between Thomson Avenue and Kennerly Road, weekdays 9 a.m.-3 p.m. through Aug. 31.

Springfiel­d, Upper Darby

• North Bishop Avenue, closed with posted detour between Springfiel­d and Burmont roads, weekdays 9 a.m.-3 p.m. July 13-Sept. 14

Tinicum

• East Second Street, lane restrictio­ns between Iroquois Street and Tinicum Island Road, weekdays 9 a.m.-3 p.m. through Aug. 31

• Fourth Avenue, lane restrictio­ns between Iroquois Street and Tinicum Island Road, weekdays 9 a.m.-3 p.m. through Aug. 31

Upper Chichester

• Larkin Road, lane closure between East Colonial Drive and Bethel Road, weekdays 9 a.m.-3 p.m. July 10-17

Upper Darby

• State Road, closed with posted detour between U.S. 1 (Township Line Road) and Burmont Road, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and 9 p.m.-6 a.m. through July 20.

• PECO is planning weekday lane restrictio­ns on Burmont Road between Alexander Avenue and Cedar Lane on Monday, July 16, through Friday, August 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., for gas main installati­on, Penn DOT announced. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area. The schedule is weather dependent.

Upper Darby and Springfiel­d
