Charles Baratelle, 22, of Spring field

-

It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to Nicholas Charles Baratelle, age 22, of Springfield, PA, but we rejoice in knowing that he has gone home to the Lord and is with his Pop Pop B and other loved ones that went before him. Nicholas passed away on July 11, 2018, after a brave 3 year battle with brain cancer.

Nicholas attended Wheeling Jesuit University where he received an honorary Bachelor of Arts Degree. He was a 2014 graduate of Springfield High School. Nicholas enjoyed playing lacrosse, hunting, fishing, crabbing, and spending time with his family and friends. Nicholas loved traveling with family and was fortunate to have traveled the world with his Mom, his favorite trip being to Japan. He also was an avid Disney fan. He recently enjoyed trips with First Descents, a non-profit organization that takes young adults with cancer on outdoor adventures. His adventures included white water kayaking in the Poconos, white water rafting & caving in the Adirondacks, and Ice climbing in Montana, where he dreamt to someday live.

Nicholas had a passion for volunteering, especially coaching lacrosse to the youth of Springfield. A charity near and dear to his heart is No Dog Gets Left Behind, in honor of his dog Koda. Nick and his mom established the Super Hero Run, raising funds for First Descents. Nicholas lived life to the fullest. He loved with all his heart and found positivity in every aspect of life. His smile lit up any room he entered.

The brain tumors that Nicholas had were rare, and spread unlike any other documented case. His final selfless act was to donate his brain tumors and spinal cord to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia as well as Johns Hopkins Hospital, to be used for research in hopes of finding cures for others.

He is survived by his loving and devoted mother, Annie Godley-Baratelle, who never left his side throughout his battle; his father, Charlie Baratelle, and his sister, Arianna Grandson of Tom & Connie Mumley, Adeline and the late Charlie (Pop-Pop B) Baratelle. He is also survived by his Aunt Tammy (Dennis) Smith, Aunt Tara (John) Thornton, Uncle Albert Powell, Uncle Anthony (Mary) Baratelle and his loving cousins Joe, Alyssa, Gina, Al, Marissa, Maddie, Hunter & Kennedy, and many extended relatives and friends.

Family and friends are invited to a Visitation on Tuesday, July 17, 2018, starting at 5:00 pm, and Wednesday, July 18 beginning at 9:00 am, followed by a service at 11:00 am at O’Leary Funeral Home, 640 E. Springfield Road, Springfield, PA 19064.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be sent to First Descents, 3001 Brighton Blvd, Suite 623, Denver, CO 80216 or firstdescents. org. or to The Nacho Scholarship Fund, which is being established in his memory for Springfield Lacrosse. Checks can be made out to the Nacho Scholarship Fund. Contact nachostrong14@ gmail.com for mailing information.
