Cobb comes through in clutch for RALL

T.C. Cobb’s bloop single in the bottom of ninth inning scored Sean Williams and gave Ridley Area Little League a thrilling 1-0 win over Levittown in the winners bracket final of the Section 8 Majors Tournament Sunday.

Williams began the rally with his third hit of the day and moved to second on a wild pitch.

The pitching of Carter Williams and Michael Floriendo kept Levittown bats in check. Williams struck out seven over five innings, and Floriendo allowed only one hit over four innings of work to earn the win.

RALL plays in the championsh­ip round Tuesday at 6 p.m.

In the Section 8 11s tournament: NEWTOWN EDGMONT 10,

FAIRLESS HILLS 0 » Brendan Till (three runs, RBI) and Kevin Hodlofski (two runs, RBI) each finished 3-for-4 at the plate for NELL. Luke Moyer smacked two doubles and drove in three runs and Brady Abate was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Chase McMahon tossed four shutout innings while striking out three and allowed only four hits.

NELL meets Upper Providence for the Section 8 championsh­ip Monday.

In the Babe Ruth 14s state tournament: UDHL 15, DANIEL BOONE 0 » Vincent Porrieta pitched a two-hit shutout and Tommy

McNulty was 3-for-3 with a double and RBI. Paul Morgan was 2-for-2 with two ribbies. UDHL 16, FRANKLIN COUNTY

2» Max Pomerantz pitched 5 2/3 innings of three-hit, one-run ball and went 4-for-4 with three RBIs. James Sousa (two hits), Kirby Rich and Danny Sullivan all collected three RBIs.

UDHL advances to the semifinal round Monday at 5 p.m.

In the Babe Ruth 13s state tournament: BROOMALL-NEWTOWN 14, MIFFLIN COUNTY 0 » Alex Bruno collected two hits and two RBIs as B-N won its second game in pool play. Justin Brennan threw five shutout innings of relief

and helped his cause with a hit and two RBIs. Owen Mathes chipped in with two base knocks and three runs scored.

In Senior EDCO action: BRIARCLIFF­E 4, RIDLEY NALL

2» Jared Morris’ 12-strikeout performanc­e on the mound helped Briarcliff­e take Game 1 of the best-of-3 semifinal series.

Christian DiGalbo’s RBI double in the fourth inning put Briarcliff­e ahead to stay. Paul Klein, who tripled, scored the go-ahead run. Jimmy Calabrese added a two-base knock and excelled defensivel­y at shortstop.

Game 2 is scheduled for Monday at Ridley.

In the Delco League:

Chester 10, Marple Newtown 7 >> Glen Stanners earned both the win and the save. The Chester starter threw six innings of shutout ball, then reentered on the mound when things got hairy in the seventh inning.

Chip Scherer led Chester’s offense with four hits, including a two-run homer. Dez Drummond homered and doubled, while Steven Mojica tripled and drove in three runs. Isaiah Winikur and Pat Warrington each went 2-for-3. SPRINGFIEL­D 4, UPPER DARBY 2 » Paul Shepherd pitched a complete game with three strikeouts. Dan McMenamin scored the go-ahead run in the fourth inning off a bases-loaded walk. Nate Booth had a single and an RBI for the Colonials.

Softball

Sean Chase raced to the softball field hours after the birth of his daughter, Sara, and helped Premier Orthopaedi­cs defeat J.D. McGillicud­dy’s, 8-7, in a Millennium League playoff game.

Chase, whose wife is a therapist with the company, was 4-for-4 with three runs scored. Greg Watson, Tom Miles and Rob Frick all played exceptiona­l defense.

Premier was leading Game 2, 6-2, before the game was suspended due to inclement weather.
