MEDIA COURTHOUSE » A former Chester High School security guard has been convicted on charges of sexual assault and sexual abuse of a child.

Namar Ikeam Plummer, 28, of the first block of Plaza Street in Marcus Hook, was convicted on two charges of sexual assault and sexual abuse of a child for creating child pornography following a jury trial last week before Delaware County Common Pleas Court Judge Richard M. Cappelli.

“There is no act more horrific and appalling than the sexual abuse of an innocent child by someone in a position of trust,” said District Attorney Katayoun Copeland in a release. “Mr. Plummer used his position of trust to prey on a child he was supposed to protect, and caused her even further emotional damage by video recording the sexual assault.”

Police launched an investigation in August 2017 after a video appeared on Snapchat and Facebook depicting a sexual act involving an adult male and a minor in Marcus Hook, according to the release. The video had been shared by an unknown person, according to the release.

Investigators determined Plummer, represented by defense attorney Deon Basheer Browning, had nonconsensual sex with a 16-year-old victim in his home in Marcus Hook and recorded the encounter.

The victim told authorities she knew Plummer as “Mar,” a security guard at the high school. She said Plummer sexually assaulted her in July 2017 and threatened her with a gun if she did not comply. Plummer was found not guilty on one count of rape by threat of forcible compulsion.

“The victim demonstrated incredible courage by coming forward and providing detailed testimony, ensuring that the defendant will be held accountable for his actions,” said Copeland.

Plummer’s bail was revoked and he was remanded to the county prison in Concord following the verdict, where he awaits sentencing set for Oct. 23. Plummer faces up to 30 years in state prison and lifetime Megan’s Law registration.

Copeland spokeswoman Emily Harris said there are no additional formal complaints filed against Plummer at this time, but urged anyone who might also have been victimized by Plummer to contact the District Attorney’s Criminal Investigation Division Child Abuse Unit at 610-891-4700.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Danielle Gallaher and investigated by Marcus Hook Police Detective Douglas Staffelbach, county Detective Mark Bucci and county Sgts. Robin Clark and Kenneth Bellis.
