Porrietta, UDHL pour it on Penn Valley in regional

Vincent Porrietta went 3-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs scored, and also was one of three UDHL pitchers to log a three-hit victory Saturday in a 10-4 win over Penn Valley (N.Y.) in a losers bracket game of the Babe Ruth 14-under Mid-Atlantic Regional tournament in Altoona.

Porrietta was third UDHL pitcher, logging the last two outs after starter Bobby Pothier went three innings and Max Pomerantz went 3.2 in a superb joint effort.

UDHL was up by only 5-4 in the seventh inning when Sam Kimmel came off the bench and delivered a two-out, two-run single to plate two more runs and ice the game. Also for UDHL, James Sousa had two hits and an RBI and Paul Morgan had a hit and two RBIs.

UDHL will start play Sunday at 11 a.m., playing either Atlantic Shore or New Providence, N.J. UDHL needs two wins to reach the losers bracket final.

Jim Dioriso drove in three runs with a singe and a sacrifice fly as the Media Mustangs topped the Clifton Orioles, 6-3, in Game 1 of the best-of-3 quarterfinal series.

Games 2 and 3, if necessary, are Sunday afternoon at CardinalO’Hara starting at 1 p.m.

Chris Schilling and P.J. Pisane knocked in one run, and Bill Cody allowed four hits and struck out eight in 6⅓ innings to get the win.

Jerry Benedict drove in a run for the Orioles.
