Rays rally to top Tigers in opener

-

Through four innings Saturday, it looked like the Delco Tigers were going to take Game 1 of its bestof-3 Delco MSBL semifinal series with the Glen Mills Rays.

And then the Rays’ bats came to life.

Glen Mills scored 11 unanswered runs to take Game 1, 12-6. Game 2 is set for 11 a.m. Sunday morning at Cardinal O’Hara High School with Game 3 slated to follow after the conclusion of that game.

Trailing, 6-1, Randy Milia’s two-run double got the rally started for the Rays. Joey King had one hit and two walks. After the Rays took a one-run lead, Ted Rhinehart broke it open with a two-run single.

That was more than enough for winning pitcher Bill Marriott, who went the distance and struck out four.

Dave Tierno and Rhett Whitten had RBI hits to stake the Tigers to the early lead.

TOP LUMBER EXPOS 8, MEDIA MUSTANGS 2 » Barry Blundin made sure the top-seeded Top Lumber Expos got off to a good start in Game 1 of the best-of-3 semifinal series.

The 52-year-old right hander went the distance and fanned five to pace the Expos to an 8-2 victory. Game 2 is at 2 p.m. Sunday at Chester High School with Game 3, if necessary, to follow after the conclusion of Game 2.

Dan Cooper, Anthony DiGregorio and Max Blum paced the offense with two hits and one RBI each. Larry Greenwich Jr., Ed Bahamonde and Champ Sanchez pitched in with a double and one RBI apiece.
