U.D. man faces drug charges after raid on house
Police have busted a man who had nearly $2,000 in cash in his home on drug charges during a raid on a township residence last week.
A dozen charges have been filed against Gregory Gayle, 33, as a result of a search warrant served on a home in the 100 block of Richfield Road early Aug. 3. The raid yielded $1,800 in cash, thousands more in cocaine and marijuana, two hand guns, ammunition, a safe and drug paraphernalia. Gayle is charged with three counts each of use/possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance, two charges of prohibited firearms possession, two counts of manufacturing with intent to distribute and a count of receiving stolen property.
A last charge of false identification to a police officer was tacked on when Gayle allegedly provided the wrong date of birth to officers.
According to Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood, police had received information that Gayle was potentially dealing drugs at the residence. A warrant was served there at 6 a.m. by the Upper Darby Township Narcotics Unit and the Delaware County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force. Drugs were found in the living room, kitchen and a safe, police said. The safe also included a black Ruger handgun.
Police also located in the residence a fully loaded .357 magnum that police believe was stolen from Maryland. Rounds for the magnum and the Ruger were also found during the search, authorities said.
“Another one bites the dust,” said Chitwood Tuesday afternoon of taking another drug dealer off the streets. “We’re going to keep knocking them down.”
Gayle has a history of robbery, assault, gun and drug possession convictions in Philadelphia and Delaware counties.
He was remanded to the county jail for failing to post $500,000 cash bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled before Magisterial District Judge Walter Strohl on Aug. 23.
