Gordon says he’ll ‘be all right’ back with the Browns

-

BEREA, OHIO » Browns receiver Josh Gordon believes that this time he’s back to stay.

The oft-suspended former Pro Bowler recently returned to the team after stepping away for three weeks to get mental health counseling, the newest interruption in a career that has had numerous stops and starts.

The 27-year-old spoke Monday after practice for the first time since he came back and said he’s focused on the upcoming season and helping the Browns win.

Gordon has been limited by a hamstring issue since returning, but he’s confident he’ll be ready for the Sept. 9 season opener against Pittsburgh.

He’s grateful for the support he’s received from the Browns organization and his teammates. Gordon said the only way to win back the trust of the Browns and coach Hue Jackson is “walk it out and live out those actions on a daily basis. I can’t make anybody feel any type of way about me.”

Jaguars WR Lee out for season after hit to knee

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. » The Jacksonville Jaguars will be without their top receiver for the second straight year.

Coach Doug Marrone says Marqise Lee will have season-ending knee surgery and be placed on injured reserve.

Lee, who led the team in receptions in 2017, was carted off the field Saturday night after Falcons cornerback Damontae Kazee delivered a helmet-first hit to his knee. Lee fumbled on the play, but it was overturned because Kazee was flagged for leading with his helmet.

Tests confirmed what everyone in the stadium expected after seeing Lee’s knee buckle: The injury was severe.

The Jags lost No. 1 receiver Allen Robinson to a knee injury in last year’s regular-season opener. Robinson signed with Chicago in free agency.

Broncos say Pacman brings experience, but not baggage

ENGLEWOOD, COLO. » As far as the Broncos are concerned, Adam “Pacman” Jones brings experience and energy to Denver but none of the baggage from a long list of run-ins with the law and the league.

The Broncos signed Jones to a one-year, $1,015,000 deal over the weekend to bolster their banged-up secondary and their punt return unit.

Although Jones’ background includes two dozen games lost to suspension over his 11-year NFL career, coach Vance Joseph vouched for Jones’ character as a player and as a person Monday.

“I’ve coached him for two seasons and his football character is A-plus,” said Joseph. “He was a team captain for us. He made a Pro Bowl for me. He’s great in meetings, he’s great in the locker room, he’s a great leader. He’s played a long time in this league.
