Fall book sale on tap in Chichester

UPPER CHICHESTER » Consider a Shakespear­e hardback classic for $1, or a Hemingway paperback adventure for 50 cents. These are but two of thousands of choices of books of all genres available for sale at Upper Chichester Library’s fall book sale, which runs Sept. 12-15 at the Upper Chichester Library Municipal Building, 8500 Furey Road in Upper Chichester.

A special preview sale will be on Wednesday, Sept.

12, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. The cost for the special preview sale: $10/person. Book sale hours: Wednesday, Sept. 12, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Thursday-Friday, Sept. 1314, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 15, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. DVDs and audiobooks will also be available.

All proceeds support library operations and programs.

Also, it’s LIGHTS OUT on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m., when the Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons tribute band, will perform at The Phoenix Ballroom at Reliance Fire House at Mill Road and Chichester Avenue in Upper Chichester. A talented group that’s been entertaini­ng audiences for years, LIGHTS OUT has been dubbed the #1 Frankie Valli tribute band in the country. The lead singer’s voice is described as almost identical to Frankie himself. Bingo at Aston Library

ASTON» Friends of Aston Library is hosting BINGO from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, in the Aston Community Center. Admission is $25, and it will be all-cash prizes. Also, there will be special games, food BINGO supplies and raffles. No one under 18 years of age will be admitted. All proceeds go to Aston Library.

History of Motown at Ridley library

RIDLEY TOWNSHIP » The Ridley Township Public Library will be hosting The History of Motown Monday, Sept. 10, starting at 6:30 p.m. The free, onehour program will be part performanc­e and part lecture, with entertaine­r Jon Turk singing hits from favorite artists like the Supremes, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, the Temptation­s, and more!

Card Making in Tinicum

TINICUM » The Tinicum Memorial Public Library is offering a Beginner Card Making Class at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 10. Learn the basics of card making and create a simple card perfect for any occasion, as well as how to use basic tools and paper to create the perfect card base. Techniques used in this class can be applied over and over again for all types of cards.

The class is free and will include all the materials. Registrati­on is required.

Also, at 6 p.m. Sept. 12, the library will host “Ten Ancient Sites that Might be Stargates, Portals and Wormholes,” presented by Victorian Vanities, Inc. Discussion will include recent FBI files that state Earth has been visited by beings from other dimensions and planets, as well as NASA’s announceme­nt that portals do indeed appear to be hidden within the Earth’s magnetic field. Learn about these legends of stargates, portals and wormholes to determine if there is some truth.

Also, the library is hosting free workshops regarding college planning and financial aid, conducted by Lou Ann Bulik, founder of Red Brick Educationa­l Consulting LLC. Workshops include:

RIDLEY PARK » Join Ridley Park’s annual community read! All residents are invited to read and discuss “The Last Town on Earth” by Thomas Mullen. The award-winning novel has been described as “a powerful, sweeping tale of morality in a time of upheaval.”

The intent of the program is to spark conversati­ons among neighbors, friends and friends yet-tobe-made. A community forum is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17 at borough hall. Copies of the book are available for loan or purchase for $10 at the library. The book is also readily available from Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

A secure drop box at the Community Recreation and Environmen­tal Center (CREC) entrance at the Haverford Reserve, 9000 Parkway Drive, Haverford, will make returns more user friendly. This is one more way – along with online interactio­n, eBook usage instructio­n, homebound delivery, museum passes, hot spots, programs and more, that “your library on the corner” serves as full-fledged community partner.
