Smith, Debusscher­e keep Haven winning on links

As the golf world’s attention turned to a different part of Delaware County, Strath Haven’s pair of Kevin Smith and Jackson Debusscher­e put on a show of their own at Springhave­n Country Club.

Debusscher­e shot the low round of two-over 37 with a birdie and five pars, while Smith carded a birdie and four pars as part of his 38 as the Panthers defeated Harriton 193-201. Haven improves to 6-0 in the Central League with the win.

Elsewhere in the League

RIDLEY 225, LOWER MERION 246 » All five of the Green Raiders’ top scorers finished with rounds in the 40’s at the Springfiel­d Country Club. Christian Gallo’s 43 led the group, with Ethan Pecko carding a 44. Ridley is now 4-2 overall, 2-2 in the league.

SOKALSKY GOES LOW AS GARNET VALLEY TAKES ONE OF TWO » Jake Sokalsky posted a 35 in Garnet Valley’s tri-match with Marple Newtown (205-235) and Conestoga (205-184). It was even par for Sokalsky, although he birdied the first and seventh holes.

Gillyoung Koh of the Tigers Central also finished in the 30s, shooting 38 to lead the Marple contingent.

SMITH, DEBUSSCHER­E LEAD HAVEN TO SWEEP » Strath Haven defeated Springfiel­d (202-259) and Haverford High (202-226) at Rolling Green Golf Club late Tuesday behind the hot play of Kevin Smith and Jackson Debusscher­e, each of whom carded 37.

Andrew D’Amico was low man for the Fords with a 43, while Michael Bednar, with a 48, was the lone Cougar in the 40s.

In nonleague action: RADNOR 195, EPISCOPAL ACADEMY 203 » The trio of Jack Hamilton, David Colleran and Davis Flannery made the difference for the Raiders in the narrow victory. Hamilton fired a 37, while Colleran and Flannery each signed for 39.

Robbie Copit of the Churchmen matched that score, the lowest for EA.

In the Catholic League: ARCHBISHOP CARROLL 253, ARCHBISHOP WOOD 254 » The Patriots needed every single stroke that Chris Waldmann could save, his low score of 38 at Five Ponds Golf Course leading Carroll to a narrow win. Jack Tulskie chipped in a 41 for the Patriots. CARDINAL O’HARA 240, FATHER JUDGE 302 » Michael Larkin and Luke Pastore each posted fourover 38s at Union League at Torresdale to lead the Lions to a league win. Joseph Taggart carded a 39 and Tom Carroll added a 40 for O’Hara (9-1, 8-1).

Water Polo

Jason Chen starred in goal as Haverford School upended St. Benedict’s Prep, 19-8. Not only did Chen make three saves, he also assisted on three Fords goals.

That fit into the theme of the afternoon when Haverford (60) got offense from everywhere. Eight different players scored, while seven picked up helpers. Matej Sekulic led the offense with six goals and two assists. Jake LaRocca contribute­d five goals and a pair of assists.

Boys Soccer

Balanced scoring was the story for Delco Christian in a 4-2 win over Phil-Mont Christian Academy. Four Knights found the back of the net: Jason Woo, Cole Levis, Micah Metricardi and Max Cardone. Levis also picked up an assist in the victory.

Josiah Bronkema made three saves.

In the Catholic League:

LA SALLE 1, BONNER & PRENDERGAS­T 0 » Mike Perretta made eight saves as the Friars hung tough, but a second-half goal from Chris Metzler made the difference for the Explorers.

In nonleague action: EPISCOPAL ACADEMY 3, PARKWOOD 1 » Sam Wilson scored twice off assists from Harrison Malone, and Luca DiLeonardo added the third goal as EA made it two wins in as many games in its swing through North Carolina. Trevor Manion made two saves in goal.

Girls Soccer

Devon Maillet opened the scoring in the eighth minute and set up goals by Eleni Diakatos and Cayden Frazier as Strath Haven notched a 5-0 nonleague win over Friends Central.

Gianna Zweier and Abby MacPherson also scored for the Panthers (2-0), who got two saves and a clean sheet from Claire Wolgast.

In other nonleague action: DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 1, RADNOR 0» Anna Gurian and Katie Bell split time in goal, but a secondhalf dally from the Whippets earned them the win.

Field Hockey

After leading by two at the break, Bonner & Prendergas­t erupted for four goals in the second half to secure a 6-0 win over Conwell-Egan. Emma Beaty found the back of the goal three times for the Pandas, while Reagan Dolan chipped in a goal and an assist.

Also in the Catholic League: ARCHBISHOP CARROLL 15, ST. HUBERT 0 » Katie LaBella scored seven times in the first half to go with two assists, and Alex Almonte added five goals and a helper as Carroll (2-0, 1-0) romped.

Tennis

Radnor dropped just three games in its 7-0 victory over Ridley in Central League play.

Each of the Raiders’ three singles players took care of business: Kanon Ciarrocchi, Lucy Hederick and Bridget Dougherty all collected 6-0, 6-0 victories.
