Feds detail spill of fuel into Darby Creek by Sunoco
PHMSA reports stated that 798 bbls, or 33,516 gallons, of refined and/or petroleum products were released into the creek. No injuries or fatalities were reported.
A Sunoco pipeline leaked more than 33,000 gallons of gasoline into the Darby Creek in June, reports to federal authorities indicated.
According to the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, the line that runs from Point Breeze to Montello was shut down at 10:49 p.m. on June 18.

The U.S. Coast Guard National Response Center reported that booms were applied, the material was contained and a clean-up crew responded to the site.
They also said that the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and various public utilities were notified.
Representatives from Energy Transfer Partners, Sunoco’s parent company, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The company has come under scrutiny for leaks and other issues on its Mariner East lines, connecting the Marcellus and Utica shales with Delaware County. They are intended to pump hundreds of thousands of gallons of butane, ethane and propane for storage, processing and distribution locally, domestically and internationally.
Just last week, in West Goshen, a Quest Consultants engineer unveiled the findings of an assessment they performed, which found the risk associated with the Mariner East pipeline “unacceptable” in certain locations.
Del-Chesco United for Pipeline Safety spearheaded the $50,000 campaign and the Clean Air Council was the fiscal agent. The money was raised through contributions from several municipalities and crowdsourcing, including a contribution from Delaware County Councilman Brian Zidek.
