Delco slates events to mark anniversary of Sept. 11
Delaware County’s annual September 11th Remembrance Day Ceremony will be held 1 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 11 at the Delaware County Law Enforcement and Fire & EMS Memorial in Rose Tree Park, 1671 N. Providence Rd. Hosted by District Attorney Katayoun Copeland, the ceremony will include the laying of memorial wreaths for police, firefighters and first responders, and for the victims of September 11 and the servicemen and women who have given their lives in pursuit of freedom since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
Everyone is asked to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the ceremony so their arrival is not disruptive. Parking is available on site and the memorials are handicap accessible.
Aston Township plans memorial ceremony
A Patriot Day 17th anniversary memorial ceremony will be held 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11 at the Aston Township Memorial Garden at Five Points, Concord and Pennell roads, Aston Township. Everyone is welcome.
The Friends of the Brandywine Battlefield present Sept. 11 program
The Friends of the Brandywine Battlefield will present a program at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11 to remember the anniversary of the Battle of Brandywine on Sept. 11, 1777 and the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. The free program, open to the public, will feature distinguished speakers such as General George Washington, Pa. state Rep. Steve Barrar, R-160 of Concord, and others followed by a musket salute.
Additionally, the Brandywine Battlefield Park Associates will dedicate their newly donated “Liberty Tree” behind Washington’s Headquarters. This Liberty Tree is propagated clone of an original Liberty tree that was used by supporters of the Continental Congress during the American Revolution in Annapolis, MD and donated to the park by the PA Sons of the Revolution. This is a rain or shine event. Plenty of free parking is available.
Ridley Park to hold Sept. 11 ceremony in park on Sellers
A newly constructed 9/11 Memorial will be unveiled at Ridley Park’s Spirit of America Park, Sellers and Felton Ave, 12 noon Saturday, Sept. 15. Built as an Eagle Scout project by Edward Caleo of Woodlyn Troop #43 and his fellow scouts and local business owners and individuals, the monument depicts the Twin Towers, the Pentagon and the Pennsylvania airfield where lives were lost. The new monument is under cover and will be unveiled that day. The scout and his helpers also planted red, white and blue flowers, repainted benches and spruced up the park in other ways.
Local police, firefighters, government officials, and members of the community were invited to attend. Raymond Richards played Taps and Carlee Ingelido of Ridley High School will sing the Star Spangled Banner. Members of American Legion #777 raised the Flag to half mast in memory of the 9/11 victims. Everyone is welcome. The event was previously scheduled for Sept. 9, but was postponed due to heavy rain.
