Delco Press Club kicks off year with networking event at new Valley View Golf Club
NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP » The Press Club of Delaware County will hold a kickoff networking event and ribbon cutting 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the new Valley View Golf Club,
4600 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square.
The new golf club is at the former Olde Masters. Pam Mariani, formerly of Edgmont Country Club, along with managing partner, Brian Robinson, are “shaking things up” in Newtown Square with the newly renovated facility. The driving range boasts 24 covered bays with brand new grass-like mats, and 5 different basket sizes with brand new range balls. The facility will also debut the “Valley View Zoo,” a renewed mini golf course of a zoological kind. “GolfTalk Live” host Tony Leodoro, broadcasted live at Valley View Golf yesterday evening, September 13. “GolfTalk Live” is the award winning golf radio show that has provided area golfers with all of the latest golf destination packages, instruction, local golf stories from around the PGA, including interviews with people from all facets of the golf world.
Everyone is invited to network with Delaware County Press Club members and guests, exchange business cards and other professional information and congratulate longtime Press Club member Pam Mariani on her new venture. The Club will also celebrate the 25th year on the air of Debbi Calton, radio personality extraordinaire, of
102.9 FM WMGK, and the
142nd birthday of the Delaware County Daily and Sunday Times.
The Press Club will accept 2018/2019 membership applications at the event from everyone who wishes to be a part of the Press Club’s 40th anniversary season.

Private tour of Wallingford’s Lindenshade Library offered
A rarely offered, private tour of the Lindenshade Library, the former library of renowned Shakespearean scholar, the late Horace Howard Furness, will take place 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Sept.
30. The tour is open to the public, but will be limited to
25 people. Presented by the Helen Kate Furness Free Library, the tour will begin at the library, 100 North Providence Rd., Wallingford, and participants will proceed on foot to Furness Lane to the Lindenshade Library. Limited parking is available on Furness Lane for those who are unable to walk the short distance. Refreshments will be served.
The Lindenshade Library, a fireproof building that was completed in 1896, is now a part of a private Wallingford residence and is rarely open for the public to view. Chester High Class of ‘61 holds reunion
The Class of 1961 of Chester High School will hold a reunion 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 at the Concordville Inn & Hotel in Concord Township. The lunehon costs $45. DCCC ‘Reignite Your Career’ course begins Monday
Delaware County Community College will offer a 10-week career workshop for individuals looking to refresh their career. Reignite Your Career begins September 17 and runs until November 19. The workshop is held on Mondays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Marple Campus, 901 S. Media Line Road, Media.
Reignite Your Career provides structure and support for men and women attempting to cope with the uncertainty of a changing job market. The workshop is targeted to those considering a change in career direction such as the unemployed, the under-employed, or the unhappily employed. Participants will learn how to manage their own careers and take the MyersBriggs Personality Indicator and the Strong Interest Inventory to assess career satisfiers and occupational interests. They will use card sorts to identify motivated skills, burn-out skills and personal priorities. In addition, participants will identify their strongest marketable skills and develop an individualized plan to move ahead proactively. One-toone consultation appointments with one of the group leaders will be scheduled, and later sessions will explore networking strategies and online tools including LinkedIn and will emphasize the importance of taking a proactive role in career decision making.
Workshop designers and facilitators are career counselors Ruth Campbell and Carol Dougherty. Both Campbell, a professor at the College, and Dougherty are Licensed Professional Counselors in Pennsylvania and hold national certifications in career counseling. They each have extensive experience working with adults in career transition. The cost of the workshop is $114 for residents of sponsoring school districts, $144 for those in non-sponsoring districts. The cost of the Myers-Briggs and the Strong Inventory is included. Sunnyside Bluegrass Gospel Band in concert Saturday
Sunnyside Bluegrass Gospel Band of Lancaster County will perform in the “Concerts in the woods” series at Chester Heights Camp Meeting with lively finger-pickin’ music 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15. The concert will be an open air performance. The gazebo seats 125 with overflow in the adjacent picnic area. The concert is free; a love offering will be taken.
The Camp Meeting is located behind the Brookfield Townhome Development at Smithbridge and Valleybrook Rds., one mise south of Baltimore Pike. Chester Heights Camp Meeting Association is an evangelical religious organization that works with area churches. They’re located on 11 acres, with 150 year-old trees, hiking trails, children’s playground, Victorian public buildings, such as an original gazebo that seats 120 people, and 39 century-old Victorian summer cottages.
