Taggart helps O’Hara end drought against Prep

If beating St. Joseph’s Prep was one of the goals the Cardinal O’Hara golf team set for the season, the Lions can scratch that off the to-do list.

Junior Joseph Taggart shot an even-par 35 at Paxon Hollow Country Club to lead the Lions to their first win over the Hawklets in a decade with a 230-238 Catholic League triumph Thursday.

Taggart wasn’t the only O’Hara player to have a solid round. Luke Pastore and Tim Eglington both finished with 3-over 38s.

Danny Juliana and Brett Craskey each shot a 4-over par

39 and Michael Larkin shot a 41 for the Lions (10-2, 9-1).

In the Central League: CONESTOGA 201, HAVERFORD

220, SPRINGFIEL­D 255 » Andrew Damico, Riley Quartermai­n and Holden Ungvary all shot 8-over par 43 and Gregory Damico finished with a 46 for the Fords.

Michael Bednar ended the day with a 9-over par and Curtis Reed shot a 50 to lead the Cougars in a home tri-match at Rolling Green.

Will Blatchford took overall medal honors with a 3-over 39 to lead the Pioneers.

Volleyball

Kristine Guenther was dominant in every category to lead Sun Valley to a 3-2 Ches-Mont League victory over Great Valley. Guenther recorded 23 aces, pounded

13 kills and came up with nine digs in the 25-20, 20-25, 14-25, 2725, 15-11 victory. Hannah Vickers also had a huge game with 18 kills, 26 assists and 11 digs. Gia DiEmidio had five digs, three aces and two blocks and Rachel DiCarlo had 20 digs for the Vanguards (4-1, 1-1).

In the Catholic League: ARCHBISHOP CARROLL 3, CARDINAL O’HARA 0 » Maeve Boylan had 23 assists and two aces, Lauren Garvey added 11 kills and 13 digs and Regan Hickey chipped in 10 kills and seven digs for the Lions (2-1, 1-1). The individual game scores were 1825, 20-25, 23-25.

BONNER & PRENDERGAS­T 3, WEST CATHOLIC 0 » Ariana McGeary had 14 aces, Lindsey Fagan added two kills and six aces and Kelly Eisenhart and Anna Beynon had five aces apiece as the Pandas (3-2, 3-0) won 25-6,

25-8, 25-4.

In nonleague action: Chichester 3, Chester Charter

25-10 behind Madison Weigand (five assists, two kills, 12 aces, four digs), Keyairrah Davie (one kill, 10 aces) and Hope Corrales (two kills, two aces, four digs).

Notre Dame 3, Merion Mercy

0 >> Riley Shaak had eight aces and 12 kills and Maddie Donaphon tallied 21 digs for the Irish

(2-1), who won their second match in two days.

Girls Tennis

Mary Clare Hayden won in three sets in the No. 3 singles match and the tandem of Stephanie Huseby and Mya Bellapede won the No. 2 doubles match in straight sets to help Cardinal O’Hara escape with a 3-2 Catholic League victory over Archbishop Carroll. Hayden won the third set, 7-5, while Huseby and Bellapede claimed the second match 6-0, 6-3 as the Lions (4-0, 2-0) remained undefeated. Tess Humes won the No. 1 singles match, 7-5, 6-2 while Grace Ewing and Cecilia Fronner held on in the No. 1 doubles match, winning, 6-2, 6-3 for the Patriots.

In the Central League: RIDLEY 5, SPRINGFIEL­D 2 » Marisela Rechner closed out the

No.2 singles match with a 6-3 third set win and Emily La and Marissa Kennedy won the No. 1 doubles match in straight sets for the Raiders. Olivia Vearling claimed the first singles match in straight sets and freshman Mia Graci took home the No. 3 singles match for her first career match victory for the Cougars. RADNOR 7, STRATH HAVEN 0 » Kanon Ciarrocchi, Lucy Hederick and Bridget Dougherty all won in straight sets in singles while Zana Moldavsky and Esther Paik finished things off in the No. 4 doubles match, 6-0, 6-1 for the Red Raiders.

In the Ches-Mont League: DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 7, SUN VALLEY0» Maddy Koons won three games in the No. 2 singles match and the tandem of Breezie Dimaio and Jaimee Higgins claimed four games in the No. 3 doubles match for the Vanguards.
