Jane Hilda Swain (nee Loughran), aged

84, beloved wife, mother and grandmothe­r passed on September 15th surrounded by her family.

Jane was born in the Kensington section of Philadelph­ia on September 29, 1933 to Joseph and Alma (nee Fischer) Loughran, the first of four children. She was a proud graduate of John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls’ High School in Philadelph­ia, where she learned to be a talented seamstress. Following her graduation, she worked at Bell Telephone until she married in 1960.

Jane was active in local politics and deeply devoted to her community. In 1981, she was elected 6th Ward Commission­er, and served through January 1986. She remained active in politics volunteeri­ng and working each election day. She also worked at McDonalds and served as a Shop Steward while working at Community Transit. She enjoyed spending her summers at Crystal Beach Manor, where she had many friends and was a member of St. Dennis Catholic Church in Galena, MD.

In addition to her loving husband of 58 years, John J. Swain, III, Jane is survived by her four sons: John and his wife Donna of Earleville, MD, Joseph and his wife Lisa of Newark, DE, Jim of Earleville, MD, and Andrew and his wife Kathy of Newark, DE. She is also survived by seven grandchild­ren: Samantha (Michael), Jason (Alex), Stephanie, Heather, Patrick, Rachel, and Sean, and three great-grandchild­ren.

Services will be held at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Milmont Park, PA. Visitation: 10a – 11:45a followed by Mass at Noon. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crozer-Keystone Hospice, Residence at Taylor Hospital, 175 E. Chester Pike, Ridley Park, PA 19078.
