Forbes sets strong Foundation by winning in Hershey

If Grace Forbes’ trip to Hershey in November is anything like the one she enjoyed Saturday, the Strath Haven senior will leave pretty happy.

Forbes won the Girls AAA race at the 12th PIAA Foundation Invitational at Hershey’s Parkview course, which also hosts the state championship. Forbes crossed the tape in 18 minutes, 53 seconds, 24 ticks clear of runner-up Hannah Lindgren of North Allegheny. Forbes posted the second-fastest girls time of the day out of three classifications, trailing only Northern’s Marlee Starliper, the winner of the AA race in

18:12.

Forbes’ teammate Abby Loiselle finished 23rd in AAA in 20:28, and Paige Day was 54th as Strath Haven finished fifth as a team with 224 points. North Allegheny won the day with

66 points, and Central Bucks West took second with 112.

Cardinal O’Hara finished 18th in the team classification, led by Christine Mancini, who earned 12th place in 20:03. Katie Till finished 50th for O’Hara.

Bonner & Prendergast finished 28th in the AA team classification, led by Maggie Salter in 130th place. Carroll’s Rebecca Clay was first for the Patriots in 151st.

Aidan Doherty of Archbishop Carroll was the best Delco boys finisher of the day, taking home ninth in the AA race in 16:53, just

44 seconds behind champion Josh Lewis of North East.

Brian McGarrity of Bonner & Prendie earned 31st, and O’Hara’s Josh Hayes and Angelo Brunetti ended up 46th and 71st, respectively. Bonner & Prendie placed 24th in the team standings.

Penncrest Invitational

Patrick Theveny liked the feel of home turf Saturday, as he crossed the line first at the Penncrest Invitational in a time of 16:55.8, part of a 1-2-3 finish for the Lions.

Jalen Chin was second in 17:26.2, seven tenths of a second ahead of Benjamin Klinger. Andrew Woolery was sixth and Josh Senackerib finished ninth as Penncrest took the team crown easily with 21 points, well ahead of runner-up Souderton (71).

Haverford School’s AJ Sanford took home seventh place. Darien Howard led Glen Mills by finishing

17th. Marple Newtown’s Ken Ching was 20th, Interboro’s Daniel Shanahan took 24th and Chester’s Abdul Griggs slotted in 27th. Jarrod Sleet led Ridley across the line in 31st.

Connie Katcavage of Haverford won the girls race, which featured Central League runners in the top three spots. Katcavage broke the tape in 21:05.3,

30 seconds quicker than Marple Newtown’s Meredith Schrock and 42 ahead of Liz Egan of Penncrest.

Katrina Miciek and Ava McAnally took ninth and tenth, respectively, as the Fords won the team title with 33 points, easily ahead of Methacton’s 86.

Ridley’s Molly Derleth took home 11th place. Erin Meyers was the leader for Interboro in 22nd.
