Adams’ last-minute run completes Episcopal comeback

Episcopal Academy found a way to win a tough road game against The Hill School Saturday.

Trailing by seven points at the end of three quarters, the Churchmen rallied with two touchdowns in the final stanza to claim a 27-21 victory.

Billy Adams’ one-yard scoring scamper with 16 seconds to play was the game-winner. Matt Bush also reached pay dirt on a one-yard run with less than three minutes to go, evening the score.

Hill School held a 21-7 lead at halftime. Adams broke off a 46-yard scoring run to trim the lead to seven. EA’s first touchdown came on a one-yard jaunt by quarterback Maurcus McDaniel in the opening period after Hill grabbed an early 7-0 advantage.

The Blues (0-3) opened up the scoring 10 minutes in when Javon Clements hit Gernard Finney for a 15-yard touchdown pass. After a long EA scoring drive that took up the rest of the first quarter, Maurice Mazzucca busted loose for a 29-yard touchdown run to give Hill a 14-7 lead early. That lead was then boosted by Josh Flowers’ interception return for a touchdown less than two minutes later to give the Blues a 21-7 lead headed for the half.

Episcopal, ranked fourth in the Daily Times Super 7, enters its bye week with a 3-1 record. The Churchmen host Salesianum (Del.) Oct. 5 before welcoming Springside Chestnut Hill Academy to town Oct. 12 for the teams’ Inter-Ac League opener.
