Annual Springfiel­d Rocks! community festival planned for October 7

SPRINGFIEL­D >> The Third Annual Springfiel­d Rocks! Family Festival event, sponsored by the Greater Springfiel­d Business Associatio­n (GSBA) will be held 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7 on the grounds of the Springfiel­d Municipal Building on Powell Road. The event, open to Springfiel­d Township residents, will feature food vendors, craft vendors, live music, plus bounce houses, pony rides, a zip line, face painting, hot-rod car show and lots of fun for the whole family. County Council public meeting in Upper Chichester

UPPER CHICHESTER>> Delaware County Council will once again hold a meeting in the community to provide residents with more options to interact with their county government leaders. Council will hold its weekly public meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3 at the Upper Chichester Township Building, 8500 Furey Rd., Upper Chichester. The offsite meeting is part of council’s ongoing efforts to enhance communicat­ion with residents by taking meetings out into community.

Holding evening meetings in the community makes it more convenient for some Delaware County residents to attend a council meeting and become more involved with their local government. It also gives Council the opportunit­y to highlight events and accomplish­ments of the residents, local groups and leaders.

The public agenda session, held the day before each council meeting, will take place at its normal time and location at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct.

The Oct. 3 County Council meeting in Upper Chichester marks the 28th meeting Council has held in various communitie­s since Council launched the outreach effort with a meeting in Collingdal­e in February 2009. Since then, Council has held outside meetings in the City of Chester, Concord, Brookhaven, Clifton Heights, Chadds Ford, Ridley Township, Upper Darby, Glenolden, Marple, Bethel, Springfiel­d, Prospect Park, Newtown Township, Aston, Garnet Valley, Haverford, Brandywine Battlefiel­d Park, Radnor and East Lansdowne.

Kids Music Day celebrated at Delco locations

The Third Annual Kids Music Day, a holiday created to help highlight the importance of music education for kids, is Friday, Oct. 5. Some of the Kids Music Day activities happening around Delaware County include:

Delco Rock School in Folsom will present student performanc­es at Tom & Jerry’s, MacDade Blvd., Ridley Township 12 noon to 3 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 5-6.

Richards Guitar Studio in Aston will present student performanc­es at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6 at Aston Community Day.

Rockdale Music in Media will host an open house 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6

Ardmore Music Hall in Ardmore will present “The Music of Prince for Kids” at 12 noon Sunday, Oct. 7.

Newlin Grist Mill to hold annual fall harvest festival

Newlin Grist Mill will hold its annual Fall Harvest Festival 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, and feature fun for the whole family. This year’s festival will feature over two dozen different demonstrat­ions of historic skills and trades. Old favorites will be returning, joined this year by millwright­s, a cooper, a shoemaker, and a bloomery iron furnace. Listen to music by the Colonial Revelers, learn colonial dancing, and enjoy performanc­es by Tuckers’ Tales Puppet Theatre! Many favorite activities from years past will be returning, including pumpkin painting and hayrides.

Visitors can shop in the festival’s Colonial Market for handmade soaps, colonial games, pumpkins, and cornmeal ground in the site’s 1704 grist mill. Traditiona­lly-made pretzels, baked in the onsite bake oven, will be available for purchase. A food truck will be offering food for sale throughout the day, as well. For adult guests, the festival will feature a Colonial Tavern from 1 to 3 p.m., where the Twin Lakes Brewing Company will be on hand to sell beer. Admission to the Fall Harvest Festival is free for all ages. Parking is $5 per car. Shuttle buses between the parking area and the festival site will run every 15 minutes throughout the event. Garnet Valley Hall of Fame dinner at Concordvil­le Inn

The Garnet Valley Education Foundation Hall of Fame dinner will be held 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18 at the Concordvil­le Inn Gold Ballroom. Holy Spirit to hold annual pumpkinfes­t

Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 2545 Franklin Ave., Secane, will hold its Annual Pumpkin Patch starting Monday, October 8. Pumpkin sales times are Mon.-Fri., 2-8 p.m.; Sat., 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; and Sun., 12-9 p.m. The Annual Pumpkinfes­t will take place 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, and feature children activities, crafts, bake sale, food, and flea market. The Eddystone Ladies Auxiliary will hold a Kate Spade Bag Bingo 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20 at Joe Hughes Hall in the Eddystone Firehouse, 1112 E 7th St., Eddystone.
