Delaware County Historical Society’s Museum: 408 Avenue of the States, Chester. A yearlong celebration to honor the birth of James Barton (Mickey) Vernon. A display case especially designed for the museum will showcase memorabilia from the life and times of one of Delco’s most illustrious personalities. To commemorate his centennial year, the SLDC website is offering video clips and sports cards, a different one to be presented each month for the rest of the year. Called Celebrating a Life Well-Lived, the clips consist of a series of interview segments in which Mickey reminisces about his years in baseball. Job Corps: is a program free to income eligible young people ages 17-24 with career training and education programs, including Certified Nurse Assistant, Clinical Medical Assistant, Culinary Arts, Emergency Medical Technician, Facilities Maintenance, and Pharmacy Technician. The program gives participants the opportunity to finish their high school education, gain hands-on experience with trained instructors, and start a real career or go to community college. Women Against Rape: Delaware County Women Against Rape has been providing services to victims of sexual assault and their significant others since 1974. The agency depends on the support of its volunteers to meet the needs of clients 24 hours a day. Services to victims include hospital/police interview accompaniment and telephone crisis intervention. Volunteers receive 40 hours of training to prepare them for their responsibilities and are asked to provide support at least twice a month for an evening or weekend shift.
