Woman, 28, killed in Chester shooting

CHESTER >> Police are investigat­ing the fatal shooting of a 28-year-old woman early Saturday.

The victim was identified as Jasmine McKinnon, according to a release issued by city Police Capt. James Chubb.

According to the release, police received a call to respond to CrozerChes­ter Medical Center for a report of a shooting victim who just arrived at the hospital, shortly after 2 a.m. Arriving officers saw a blue Pontiac parked along the curb in the front parking lot near the public entrance of the emergency room. The passenger side of the vehicle was riddled with bullet holes.

“Officers then entered the emergency room and located the hospital staff working on a female,” the release states. “The victim sustained a gunshot wound to her side and chest area. After several minutes of receiving medical care, Ms. McKinnon did succumb to her injuries.”

McKinnon was pronounced dead at 2:26 a.m.

Police learned that the shooting occurred in the area of the 2800 block of West Third Street.

McKinnon’s death brings the homicide toll in Chester to 16 this year.
