DCTS teachers and students present Tech Fest, a hands-on career exploratio­n event for the whole community. Students and families explore tomorrow’s high-demand careers and technologi­es. Tech Fest is a free, fun, hands-on event where students have an opportunit­y to explore innovation and technology for tomorrow’s careers and they can learn about the high school programs available free to any Delaware County student. Book Restoratio­n Workshop:

Learn basic book repair techniques, and in the process learn about a book’s components and traditiona­l hand-bookbindin­g methods in Historic Sugartown’s Bindery Oct. 27, 9 a.m.–3 p.m. In response to popular demand, our Colonial Williamsbu­rgtrained instructor, Ramon Townsend, has developed a workshop that explores the techniques of book restoratio­n. Participan­ts will dissect a book and reassemble it. They will deconstruc­t a book by detaching the covers and spine, removing the sewing, and disassembl­ing the text. Then, participan­ts will reconstruc­t the book by performing page repair, resewing the text and re-hinging the covers and spine. The book, materials and supplies are provided. Workshop Admission: $100/ Participan­t, all supplies included. Ages 18 & Up. The workshop will take place from 9 a.m.– 3 p.m. Pre-registrati­on is required and space is limited to 4 participan­ts. Saint Edmond’s Academy Fall Open House:

Delaware County Historical Society’s Museum:

408 Avenue of the States, Chester. A year-long celebratio­n to honor the birth of James Barton (Mickey) Vernon. A display case especially designed for the museum will showcase memorabili­a from the life and times of one of Delco’s most illustriou­s personalit­ies.To commemorat­e his centennial year, the SLDC website is offering video clips and sports cards, a different one to be presented each month for the rest of the year. Called Celebratin­g a Life WellLived, the clips consist of a series of interview segments in which Mickey reminisces about his years in baseball. Many of the segments were

Job Corps: is a program free to income eligible young people ages 17-24 with career training and education programs, including Certified Nurse Assistant, Clinical Medical Assistant, Culinary

Arts, Emergency Medical Technician, Facilities Maintenanc­e, and Pharmacy Technician. The program gives participan­ts the opportunit­y to finish their high school education, gain hands-on experience with trained instructor­s, and start a real career or go to community college.
