Tech Fest at Springfield Mall:
DCTS teachers and students present Tech Fest, a hands-on career exploration event for the whole community. Students and families explore tomorrow’s high-demand careers and technologies. Tech Fest is a free, fun, hands-on event where students have an opportunity to explore innovation and technology for tomorrow’s careers and they can learn about the high school programs available free to any Delaware County student. Book Restoration Workshop:
Learn basic book repair techniques, and in the process learn about a book’s components and traditional hand-bookbinding methods in Historic Sugartown’s Bindery Oct. 27, 9 a.m.–3 p.m. In response to popular demand, our Colonial Williamsburgtrained instructor, Ramon Townsend, has developed a workshop that explores the techniques of book restoration. Participants will dissect a book and reassemble it. They will deconstruct a book by detaching the covers and spine, removing the sewing, and disassembling the text. Then, participants will reconstruct the book by performing page repair, resewing the text and re-hinging the covers and spine. The book, materials and supplies are provided. Workshop Admission: $100/ Participant, all supplies included. Ages 18 & Up. The workshop will take place from 9 a.m.– 3 p.m. Pre-registration is required and space is limited to 4 participants. Saint Edmond’s Academy Fall Open House:
Saint Edmond’s Academy will be holding their Fall Open House for prospective students and families Nov. 6, 9 a.m. Students, parents, faculty and administrators will explain why elementary-aged children find bright beginnings in our Lower Form (Junior Kindergarten-Grade 3) while Middle Form students (Grades 4-6) are developing into confident, well-rounded young men and Upper Form students (Grades 7-8) encounter a tradition of leadership and preparation for high school. Delaware County Historical Society’s Museum:
408 Avenue of the States, Chester. A year-long celebration to honor the birth of James Barton (Mickey) Vernon. A display case especially designed for the museum will showcase memorabilia from the life and times of one of Delco’s most illustrious personalities.To commemorate his centennial year, the SLDC website is offering video clips and sports cards, a different one to be presented each month for the rest of the year. Called Celebrating a Life WellLived, the clips consist of a series of interview segments in which Mickey reminisces about his years in baseball. Many of the segments were
filmed just nine days before his death on September 24, 2008. Episcopal Place at Park Row:
421 W. 24th St., Upland, provide safe and affordable housing for low-income elderly in the community. The residency invites area seniors to its Cafe at Park Row from 5-6 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. Job Corps: is a program free to income eligible young people ages 17-24 with career training and education programs, including Certified Nurse Assistant, Clinical Medical Assistant, Culinary
Arts, Emergency Medical Technician, Facilities Maintenance, and Pharmacy Technician. The program gives participants the opportunity to finish their high school education, gain hands-on experience with trained instructors, and start a real career or go to community college.
