Movie night brings ‘The Incredibles’ to Highland Park
It’s time for movie night in the Highland Park section of Upper Darby. Upper Darby Township Council along with the Highland Park Kirklyn Civic Association will be showing the Disney movie ‘The Incredibles’ at the Observatory Playground and Field. The movie will air
6:30 p.m. this Friday, Oct.
12 at the park.
Bring your blanket or lawn chair to enjoy the show. Children will receive free trick or treat bags, with treats for attending the show. The Highland Park Kirklyn Civic Association is a non-profit community group that works to bring neighbors together to improve the quality of life for those in Upper Darby.
Come out for some laughs, enjoyment for you and the kids.
‘Antigone’ at WCU
West Chester University Department of Theatre and Dance, in cooperation with The College of Arts and Humanities, presents “Antigone,” by Sophocles, starting this Friday night. The show’s translation is by Anne Carson. John Bellomo directs. “Antigone” runs Friday, Oct. 12 and Oct. 19, at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 13 at 2 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 20 at 7:30 p.m.
The production is being featured in the Madeleine Wing Adler Theatre located in the Swope Music Building and Performing Arts Center, 817 S. High Street, West Chester. Tickets range from $13-$16 and can be purchased by the public at www.wcupatix.com.
In “Antigone,” a young girl believes that the highest priority, over the laws of the country and the commandments of leaders, is that one must do what is right. One girl, thousands of years ago, dared to stand up for her beliefs and face the consequences.
Haunted Park in Norwood
Boo! It’s time for the Haunted Park in Norwood.
Norwood’s “Haunted Park,” sponsored by the Citizen’s Fourth of July Association Inc., will be held on Oct. 26-27. The park opens at 7 p.m. and closes at 9 p.m.
The price is $5 per person and is held rain or shine. The park is located at the bottom of Winona Avenue and Amosland Road.
The park will feature refreshments, hot dogs, pretzels, soda, water and hot chocolate. Glow necklaces also will be on sale.
And, of course, the committee is planning tons of chills and thrills, with ghouls, ghosts and goblins to scare you.
YMCA to hold neighborhood scavenger hunt
The YMCA will host a neighborhood scavenger hunt 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14. No membership is required to participate. The hunt will begin at the Lansdowne YMCA branch. Participants will be given an information packet after picking to do the Driving Road Rally or the Walking Selfie Hunt. Cost is $20 for a family of 5 people, with $5 extra for additional family members. Families must register by Oct. 7. After the hunt, families are invited back for a family BBQ out back of the YMCA. Christmas Bazaar takes place at St. Laurence
St. Laurence Parish will hold the 2018 Christmas Bazaar & Craft Show, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday Nov. 17, in the downstairs church hall at 8245 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby. The bazaar will feature crafters, attic treasures, raffles, lunch and Santa. Set-up begins at 7:30 a.m. and everyone should use the back parking lot. Haverford Fine Art and Craft Show coming soon
The Haverford Guild of Craftsmen will hold a Fine Art and Craft Show at the Agnes Irwin School, Ithan Ave. and Conestoga Rd., Rosemont, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21. The Fall Fine Art and Craft Show will showcase the work of over 60 juried artists in media that includes jewelry, leather, ceramics, glass, fiber, photography, painting, metal sculpture, wood, illustration, and mixed media. Prospect Park to host food and music festival
Prospect Park will host a Food and Music Festival 12 noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 at Park Square Park, 952 E. Park Square in Prospect Park. The rain date is Oct. 20. The event will present a variety of dining options including food trucks and tents from 3 Brothers Water Ice, Brilliant Beverages, Center Cut Events, Dos Gringos, Famous Crab Cakes, Judy’s Ice Cream, Plum Pit Food Truck, Sinfully Delicious, Taste of Heaven, and Zac’s Burgers. Local musical artists will perform throughout the day. The headliners are DeLaSalle Band, Grace Manton, Julia Zane, MLC, DJ Derrick Richards and DJ John Saddic. Inflatable moon bounce, face painting, and a costume contest are available for children. This event was planned by the Prospect Park Recreation Board, a committee appointed by Prospect Park Borough Council comprised of community residents.
