CHESTER >> The Delaware County Literacy Council (DCLC) will host the “Champions of Adult Literacy—Quizzo For a Good Cause,” 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24 in The Block Entertainm­ent Center at Harrah’s Philadelph­ia in Chester.

Abruzzese Delco to hold 27th annual dinner dance

Associazio­ne Regionale Abruzzese Delco will hold its 27th annual dinner dance 4-9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28 at the Heritage Ballrooms, 2107 MacDade Blvd., Holmes. This year’s dinner dance will honor Daniel Amorosa and family, owners of Amoroso’s Baking Company, LaVerne Harmon, Ed.D., president of Wilmington University, and Dave White, owner of DWD Mechanical Conractor and former Delaware County Councilman. Media-UP Library to hold annual fall book sale

The Media-Upper Providence Free Library Fall Book Sale will take place Saturday through Monday, October 20-22. The sale will run 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. each day at the Library, 1 E. Front Street, Media. The site is fully accessible, with wide aisles and an elevator.

The upcoming sale will feature over 40,000 books, movies, music, games, puzzles. DVDs, CDs and more. On Saturday, most items are $1-2, on Sunday, everything is one-half price and on Monday, buy a bag for $5 and stuff it full. Texas Chainsaw Musical at Barnstorme­rs

The Barnstorme­rs Theatre in Ridley Park will present “The Texas Chainsaw Musical” 8 p.m. Oct. 18, 19, 26, 27 and Oct 19-20; 26-27 an Nov. 2-3. “The Texas Chainsaw Musical,” created by Christophe­r Minori and Composer Cory Bytof is the story of a handsome serial killer, his overly affectiona­te momma, the women he loves, and the runt that ruins everything. According to a press release, the show has “over-the-top humor, absurd but authentic characters, and moving, catchy tunes lead us through the lives of the four main characters as they trip over each other toward an unexpected and shocking ending. NDECHU bring funky sound to CAC’s Friday Night Live

Community Arts Center, 414 Plush Mill Road, Wallingfor­d, will present NDECHU at its next Friday Night Live event, October

Last Chance to hold CD release party Saturday

The musical duo Last Chance, Ingrid Rosenback of Swarthmore and Jack Scott of Wallingfor­d, will host and be featured performers at a CD Release party and Benefit Concert at Tree of Life Church, 933 Baltimore Pike, Springfiel­d, Saturday, Oct. 13. All proceeds will benefit One Step Away, the newspaper published and sold in Center City Philadelph­ia by homeless or previously homeless vendors. Joining Last Chance as special guest performers will be the Delaware Valley a cappella group Vocal Motive.

Doors open at 7 p.m. and showtime is 7:30 p.m. Each attendee will receive a free copy of the new CD by Last Chance, “Claiming the Sky,” which has already been played on radio stations in 11 states and Canada. NakedEye Ensemble to perform at DCCC

Delaware County Community College’s New Music Concert Series will conclude its fall season with a performanc­e by NakedEye Ensemble titled “Time’s Illusion” 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28 in the Large Auditorium of the Academic Building on the Marple Campus, 901 South Media Line Rd., Media.

“Time’s Illusion” is a collaborat­ive commission­ing project between NakedEye and The National Watch and Clock Museum, the largest specialize­d museum of horology in the U.S. Both are based in Lancaster County, Pennsylvan­ia.

General admission is $10 and tickets are available online or at the door. Free admission for students of local colleges, universiti­es and high schools. AARP driving refresher course offered

A four-hour AARP driving refresher course will be held 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, October 19, at the Aston Community Center, 3270 Concord Rd., Aston.Those who have taken the eight-hour course through AARP, and can produce documentat­ion of having completed it, such as a certificat­e, cancelled check or insurance statement, are eligible to take the refresher course.
