Colleran, Quartermai­n advance to regional

With their solid showings at the District 1 Class

3A boys and girls golf tournament­s, Radnor’s David Colleran and Riley Quartermai­n of Haverford High each qualified for the PIAA East Regional.

Colleran shot 2-over par

70 in the second round of Tuesday’s district tourney at Turtle Creek Golf Course. He finished even par, tied for fifth place with Harriton’s David Fitzgerald. Colleran made

13 pars and two birdies on his second day of competitio­n. Colleran teamed with Jack Hamilton, Davis Flannery, Blake Stephano and Chase Stefano to finished fourth in the team competitio­n.

Patrick Sheehan of Central Bucks East, who shot

5-under par, captured the title after outlasting Central Bucks West’s Luca Jezzeny and Holy Ghost Prep’s Liam Hart in a tiebreaker playoff. Defending PIAA Class 3A champ Unionville topped Holy Ghost Prep by four strokes to win the team title.

Strath Haven’s Kevin Smith fell 17 spots in Round 2 after a strong opening day performanc­e. Overall, Smith finished tied for 23 place at 8-over. Radnor’s Stephano jumped four spots from Monday, but placed tied for 26th at

9-over par.

On the girls side, Quartermai­n carded a 147 total, good for 4-over par and tied for fourth place with Downingtow­n East’s Liddie McCook. Quartermai­n was 2-over par on each day. In her second round, Quartermai­n racked up nine pars and four birdies. Mount St. Joseph Academy edged Downingtow­n East by one stroke for the girls Class 3A team championsh­ip. The PIAA East Regional gets under way from Golden Oaks Golf Club in Fleetwood on Oct. 15.

District 12 Championsh­ips

Bonner & Prendergas­t’s Dylan Williams and Rob Dougherty each carded a

77 to tie for fourth place in the District 12 tournament at Melrose Country Club. La Salle’s Steve Lorenzo (73) won the championsh­ip.

The Friars claimed third place in the team standings with a 332. La Salle (302) was first, followed by St. Joseph’s Prep (321) in second. Led by Dan Juliana’s 82, Cardinal O’Hara took fourth place with 343 points.

Bonner & Prendie’s Hayden Smith finished with an 86 and O’Hara’s Joseph Taggart posted an
