SPRINGFIELD >> The Springfield Area Educational Foundation (SAEF) will host its 5th annual signature fundraising event 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, featuring the Philadelphia Boys Choir in the Springfield High School Auditorium. The event will bring together the world renowned Philadelphia Boys Choir and the Springfield High School & Middle School Select Choirs singing popular songs of the season.
This year’s performance will honor SHS choral director Dennis Lauffer and proceeds will benefit the music education department. Norwood to hold Haunted Park Oct. 26-27
Norwood’s “Haunted Park” sponsored by the Citizen’s Fourth of July Assoc., Inc. will be held 7-9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 26-27. Admission is $5. The event will be held rain or shine. The park is located at the bottom of Winona Avenue where it intersects with Amosland Road near the baseball fields. Glow necklaces will be on sale, along with hotdogs, pretzels, soda, water and hot chocolate. Everyone is welcome to the night of “thrills and chills.”
Marple Christian Church to hold annual craft fair
The Christian Women’s Fellowship of Marple Christian Church, 475 Lawrence Rd., Broomall will host its Sixteenth Annual Craft Fair 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20,, rain or shine. There will be crafters and a raffle of crafters’ donations, face painting, mid-day musical entertainment, homemade soups, as well as sandwiches and hot dogs available for lunch and home-baked goods from a bake table. Wine and cheese party to benefit Emmaus Home
Emmaus Home will host a wine and cheese party 6-10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27 at Notre Dame de Lourdes Parish Hall, 950 Fairview Ave., Swarthmore. Emmaus Home is a faith-based nonprofit in person-centered care for adults with autism and intellectual disabilities. Cost is and will feature wine, food, fun, prizes and music with Miss K and the Hot Notes Jazz Band. The emcee and guest speaker will be Jim Murray, former general manager of the Philadelphia Eagles and co-founder of the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House. Tickets are $25 online or $30 at the door. Chester Eastside puts out call for teens interested in computer technology
Chester Eastside, Inc. is currently accepting applications for student interns in the Phoenix Technology Training Program. Interested candidates should be high school students interested in expanding their knowledge of computer technology. The curriculum includes: Computing History, Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet Browsing, Programming and 3D Printing. Interns attend Saturday classes, led by technology professionals and mentor students in the Phoenix after-school program during the week. Aldan Elementary School receives $68,609 Lowe’s grant
The Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation has awarded a $68,609 grant to Aldan Elementary School for the Aldan School and Community Play Space. Aldan Elementary, Kompan Playgrounds, and Gary Greene, LLC and crew completed construction of the playground over Labor Day weekend. Nearly 300 people celebrated the grand opening at the school’s annual Fall Festival on September 20, welcoming new and returning families to Aldan Elementary. The Saint Francis Over
50 Club in Springfield will meet Thursday, Oct. 25 in Leonard Hall. A speaker from Apprise will discuss the changes in Medicare. Members may invite guests to hear about this topic.
