Historic relics from local 18th Century estate up for sale

Boasting a functioning dairy, train station, and post office, the Darlington family estate in Chester County was once the bustling hub of its surrounding community; now its contents are up for sale in an on-site auction by Wilson’s Auctioneers & Appraisers of Chester Heights. Relics from this historical home will be made available to the public during a two-day sale October 20-21, beginning at 10 a.m. each day, at 643 Darlington Rd. Media. Bidders will have the chance to purchase all sorts of furniture, antiques, and one-ofa-kind collectibles such as original Darlington Dairy milk bottles, civilwar era land maps, guns, artwork by noted artists and more.

From the late 1700s on, the Darlington property has been more than just the home of the five generations of Darlingtons that lived there. It was the heart of the community. Each Valentine’s Day, young lovers would flock to the post office on the property to send their sweetheart a letter stamped from “Darling, PA.” The Darlington Dairy provided fresh milk to nearby towns while the train station offered easy access to Philadelphia along the mainline track. The main Darlington home also included a one-room schoolhouse on the second floor where the family’s children received education.
