Curran and Notre Dame rally to stay unbeaten

For a good portion of the first half Wednesday, it looked like Notre Dame’s undefeated record might be in jeopardy. Villa Maria jumped out to a two-goal lead through Adele Iacobucci and Ryan Hickey.

At that point, the Irish called timeout and whatever was said, Lauren Curran took it to heart. She scored three consecutiv­e goals before Jess Schneider added to the Notre Dame lead in a 4-3 win.

The Hurricanes pulled one back but drew no closer. Paige Kieft sealed the win for the Irish (14-0-1, 5-0-0) with three saves.

In other nonleague action:

RIDLEY 5, CHICHESTER 0 >> Four Green Raiders put their names on the scoresheet in the win. Megan Lynch scored twice, while Julia Meeley, Alison Whaley and Corrine Stratton netted once each. Sophia Amalfitano was stellar in the Eagles’ goal, making 15 saves.

In the Catholic League:

ARCHBISHOP CARROLL 4, ARCHBISHOP WOOD 0>> Katie Dekovich started the scoring midway through the second half, which opened the Patriots’ floodgates.

Keri Daly scored twice and added an assist, and Maeve Riehman also scored for Carroll (13-4, 8-0).

BONNER & PRENDERGAS­T 7, LITTLE FLOWER 0 >> Katie Caruso scored twice as the Pandas (8-7, 6-2) broke the game open with five second-half tallies. Reagan Dolan and Brennagh Shields had a goal and an assist each. CARDINAL O’HARA 5, LANSDALE CATHOLIC 0 >> Katie Shallow tallied a hat trick, Sara Grassi paired two goals with a helper and Grace Hussey also scored for the Lions.

Girls Tennis

Academy Park seniors Taylor Smith and Camille Erskine set the tone as the Knights put the finishing touches on yet another Del Val team title, their sixth consecutiv­e, by beating Chichester, 5-0.

Erskine, the individual league champ, scored a 2-6, 6-0, 6-3 win over Deseree Naugle in a close match, with Smith dispatchin­g Haley Malloy, 6-1, 6-0. Academy Park closes the year 6-0 in the league and 9-7 overall, a quality turnaround from a 1-5 start.

In the Inter-Ac League:

EPISCOPAL ACADEMY 4, BALDWIN 3 >> A day after winning the league tournament championsh­ip, the Churchwome­n used their doubles prowess to secure the rain-delayed regularsea­son crown.

Ashley Kennedy was the only singles player to capture a victory, triumphing over Torrie Smith, 6-1, 6-4, at first singles.

It fell to doubles to seal the deal. Cara Harty and Eliza Aldridge survived a tiebreaker in the first set to take first doubles. Grace Hennigan and Caroline Burt prevailed 6-1, 6-2 at second doubles. And Mackenzie Lee and Natalie Johnston notched the decisive point at third doubles, outdueling Berlyn Squillaro and Abby Dubinski, 7-5, 6-4, to solidify a 13-0 record, including 6-0 in the league.

In the Tri-County Independen­t League: BARRACK HEBREW 4, KIMBERTON WALDORF 1 >> Ellie Sherwood made quick work of Lillie Lin Ziyue, 6-0, to help the Cougars ease past Kimberton Waldorf. Maya Hurtig also earned a victory in singles play, defeating Anulisse Tarlow, 6-4.

Girls Soccer

Thanks to a second-half outburst, Radnor closed its season on a high note. The Raiders scored twice after the break to secure a 3-1, non-league victory over Merion Mercy.

Audrey Rosenblum, Lu Mackenzie and Olivia Gusdorff found the back of the net for Radnor, while Anna Gurian and Katie Bell split time in goal.

Boys Soccer

John Ameyaw scored and Ethan Zardus made 10 saves as Interboro drew with Chichester, 1-1. Jeff Smarkola had Chichester’s goal. Cameron Flanagan made six saves.

In the Bicentenni­al League:

FAITH CHRISTIAN 3, CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 2 >> Grant Sareyka scored twice in the second half, and Zac O’Brien made nine saves, but Faith scored with 10 minutes to play to get the result.
