Make gun position heard at polls
To the Times: My husband and I and our two children were among the many families doing their usual Saturday afternoon shopping at the Target at Springfield Mall this past weekend, and we were among those families, many with small children like ours, fleeing the building for our cars when we were alerted to the possibility of an active shooter on the premises. We narrowly missed walking past the shooting as we entered the building a few moments beforehand.
We were lucky. Not so the roughly 100 Americans who are victims of gun violence on a daily basis.
I am terrified of raising my children in a society where it feels events such as these are becoming normalized. And I am deeply saddened that my kids’ sense of safety in places like shopping malls and schools is being threatened in this way.
I have to believe, regardless of what it seems the NRA would like us to, that the majority of lawabiding gun owners do not object to commonsense gun regulation. Not to mention the majority of Americans, period. I am determined to hold my legislators accountable to represent and protect my family, not the interests of the NRA.
When I head to the polls in less than two weeks, no politician who is not committed to getting this done will be getting my vote.
