Pantaleo’s winner helps EA end Notre Dame’s streak

Gianna Pantaleo scored the winning goal off of an assist from Sofia Acosta to help Episcopal Academy’s field hockey team to a 3-1 Inter-Ac victory over the Academy of Notre Dame, snapping the Irish’s 16-game unbeaten streak.

Jayne Morley got things started with the lone goal for either team in the first half, and Maddie Rehak put the game out of reach with the third goal for the Churchwome­n, who also snapped Notre Dame’s (15-1-1, 6-1) nine-game winning streak. Goalkeeper Caroline Kelly made 15 saves for Episcopal Academy (10-2-2, 5-2-1).

Lauren Curran scored the only goal for the Irish with a helper from Mia Leonhardt. Paige Kieft had four saves for Notre Dame.

Also in the Inter-Ac:

GERMANTOWN ACADEMY 6, AGNES IRWIN 0>> Five players scored for the Patriots including Sammy Popper, who had two goals. The Patriots will play Notre Dame on Thursday in a battle for first place in the league.

Volleyball

Riley Shaak had 15 kills and nine blocks to help Notre Dame rally to down Agnes Irwin, 3-2, and finish undefeated in the Inter-Ac League for the third year in a row.

The Irish (15-2, 8-0) fell behind 2-1 but won 23-25, 25-18, 24-26, 25-15, 15-8 behind Shaak and Christine Covella’s 33 assists. The win secured the No. 1 seed in the PAISAA Tournament, which begins on Friday.

Boys Soccer

Josh Goldstein netted two goals as Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy downed Renaissanc­e Academy, 2-0 in the Tri-County Independen­t School League quarterfin­als.

Goldstein received helpers from Zach Ufberg in the 46th minute and Mike Andelman in the 80th minute. Goaltender Robbie Ufberg made three saves for Jack M. Barrack.

In the Inter-Ac: EPISCOPAL ACADEMY 1, MALVERN PREP 1 >> Nate Ekpo found Samuel Wislon for EA’s lone goal, and goaltender Trevor Manion had five saves as the Churchmen (13-0-2, 5-0-2) remained unbeaten.

Girls Soccer

Ali McHugh’s second-half goal ended up being the decisive score as Episcopal Academy earned a 3-2 Inter-Ac victory over the Academy of Notre Dame.

Olivia Dirks had an assist and tallied the first goal of the game while Hailee Moran’s goal at the 23:44 mark put the Churchwome­n up, 3-1. Lauren Cunningham added an assist and goaltender Allie Bush had a pair of saves.

Allie Lynch netted the first goal for the Irish, and Caeli Maher scored with 13 seconds remaining to make it 3-2. Rylee Kinka had three saves for Notre Dame.

Water Polo

Ryan LaRocca tallied three goals and was one of 11 goal scorers as the Haverford School cruised to a 15-5 Inter-Ac win over Penn Charter.

LaRocca added an assist and four steals while his brother, Jake, had a goal also. Ty Godorecci scored a pair of goals to go along with an assist, steal and block and JR Leitz had two goals, three assists and three steals for the Fords (20-2, 6-0).

Bram Schork chipped in a goal, two assists and three steals while Mike Yoh had a goal and three assists.

Girls Tennis

Dori Hoffman-Filler won six games, and Ellie Sherwood took home two games in singles play but it was not enough as Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy fell, 5-0 to the Perkiomen School in the TriCounty Independen­t School League finals.

Hoffman-Filler dropped the No. 2 singles match, 6-2, 6-4 and Sherwood also lost the No. 3 match in straight sets. Anita Hoffman and Sophie Levin fell in the first set of the No. 2 doubles match, 7-5, 6-3.
