O’Hara’s Mancini and Carroll’s Doherty win District 12 titles

-

Last Saturday, Cardinal O’Hara senior Christine Mancini joined sisters Grace and Elizabeth as a Catholic League cross country champion.

Six days later she joined them as a District 12 champion.

Mancini won the individual title to lead the Lions to their seventh straight girls Class 3A team championship Thursday afternoon at Belmont Park. Mancini defeated Little Flower’s Olivia Pisacano by 38 seconds to claim the championship.

Mancini wasn’t the only county runner to claim a championship. Archbishop Carroll’s Aidan Doherty captured the boys Class 2A title.

Mancini, Katie Till (third), Kaitlyn Durning (fifth) and Bridget Bennetta (eighth) all finished in the top 10 to help O’Hara earn the district’s lone team spot in next week’s PIAA championships in Hershey. Evelyn Richard placed 18th to close out the team scoring for the Lions.

In girls Class 2A, Monsignor Bonner & Archbishop Prendergast placed four runners in the top 11 to finish second behind champion Archbishop Wood in the team competition and earn a trip to Hershey. Maggie Salter placed fifth, followed by Corrina O’Lock (ninth), Elizabeth Radek (10th) and Charlotte McDermott (11th). Archbishop Carroll freshman Evelyn Stong finished 17th to qualify as an individual.

In boys Class 2A, Doherty will have some company in Hershey. Brian McGarrity of Bonner & Prendie finished fourth to earn a berth in the state final. Cardinal O’Hara’s Josh Hayes (sixth), Thomas Haas (11th) and Patrick Welsh (19th) also qualified as individuals.
