Sacred Heart claims yet another district title

-

One of the goals the Sacred Heart volleyball team set before the season was to add another District 1 championship banner to the five already hanging in the school’s tiny gym.

The Lions can check that off their bucket list.

Senior Jaycee Webster posted seven kills, 10 aces and six digs as Sacred Heart topped Faith Christian, 3-0, Thursday night to win its second straight Class A title and sixth in the last seven years.

“(Winning a district title) never gets old,” said third-year Sacred Heart coach Sam Moyerman. “They were already asking me when they can put the banner up, but they’re not satisfied. They’re looking for one more.”

That would be a PIAA banner, which Sacred Heart does not have. That’s next on the agenda.

It truly was a team effort in the 25-11, 25-10, 25-19 victory. All 10 players had at least one kill to send the Lions (14-9) into next Tuesday’s District 1-12 regional final against the as-yet undecided District 12 champion at Upper Dublin High School (5:30). The winner of that match advances to the PIAA Tournament.

Hannah Martinson chipped in with four aces and 15 assists. Bridget McGuinn added five kills and three digs, while Emma Winter finished with two kills, four aces and one block to send the Lions to their seventh straight victory.

Best of all the team gets to hang another banner.

“We have such a good group of seniors,” Moyerman said. “I’m glad we were able to get another one.”
