Chester man charged in fatal shooting of man in Trainer
A 19-year-old man wanted in the shooting death of his mother’s longtime boyfriend in Trainer is in custody, arrested Friday in Chester by members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, authorities said.
Nasir Hassan Saleem Jr. had been wanted since soon after the death of 33-yearold Keith Jackson, who was pronounced dead the morning of Sept. 25 at the scene in his West 13th Street residence in Trainer.
Jackson’s death from multiple gunshot wounds was ruled a homicide by the Delaware County Medical Examiner’s Office.
In an interview with the Daily Times and delcotimes.com, the victim’s uncle identified Saleem as the son of Jackson’s longtime girlfriend. Danny Butler said his nephew moved into the newly purchased Trainer residence with his girlfriend about three months prior to the shooting.
Saleem Jr. was identified as a suspect following a joint investigation by Trainer police and the Delaware County Criminal Investigation Division. The case was referred to the Marshals’ office in Philadelphia.
“After weeks of investigating Saleem’s whereabouts, members of the Marshals Fugitive Task Force and Chester police surrounded an abandoned vehicle in the back alley of 600 block of Norris Street where they believed Saleem to be hiding,” about 5 p.m. on Friday, according to a release by the Marshals’ office.
Saleem, who was found lying in the back seat of the vehicle, was taken into custody without incident.
“It is unknown what relation Saleem had to Chester City or the vehicle he was located in,” the release states.
Saleem was transported to Chester police headquarters for processing, and Trainer and CID were notified of his captures.
“The U.S. Marshals Service is dedicated to the apprehension of violent crime figures. We are pleased we were able to assist our partners in Delaware County,” Supervisory Deputy Robert Clark stated.
