Widener rallies for its first win

Widener looked like it was headed for its second loss in as many nights Friday night.

The Pride shot just 36 percent from the field, 11 percent from 3-point range and trailed Rosemont by nine points at halftime in the consolatio­n game of the LaScala’s Fire Tip-Off Tournament at Rowan University. Then Tyler Drews got hot.

Drews scored 23 of his game-high 31 points in the second half to lift Widener to an 85-82 victory over the Ravens Friday night. Drews shot 4-for-7 from the floor overall in the second half,

2-for-4 from 3-point range and 13-for-13 from the free throw line to help the Pride bounce back from a loss to Penn State-Brandywine.

Jalen Howard (12 points,

10 rebounds), Elijah Boyd and A.J. Sawyers (10 points each) also reached double figures for Widener.

In other action:

ROWAN 121, PSU-BRANDYWINE 82 >> The Profs rolled to the team title behind five double-figure scorers. Connor Dickerson led the way with 17, followed by Nick Depersia, Terique Robinson and Ryan Legler with 15 each, and Brian Thatcher with 11. R.J. Dixon led the Lions with 14 points. Jacob Hunt added 13 and Anthony Lattanzi had 10.

Women’s Basketball

Desiree Oliver’s fourpoint play with 6:04 to play propelled Temple to a 58-52 Big 5 victory over Saint Joseph’s at Hagan Arena.

Oliver (15 points) was fouled while making a 3-point field goal and hit the free throw to snap a 45-45 deadlock. SJU crawled back to within two twice, but that was as close as the Hawks would get. Alliya Butts and Mia Davis added 12 points each for the Owls (2-0).

HIGH SCHOOLS

Katie Jekot tossed in 16 and Alyssa Monaghan (Bonner & Prendergas­t All-Delco) contribute­d 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists for the Hawks (0-1). QUINNIPIAC 56, DREXEL 52 >> The Bobcats used a 7-0 run in the third quarter to erase a 28-26 deficit and take the lead for good. Jen Fay led Quinnipiac with 15 points and eight rebounds.

Bailey Greenberg topped the Dragons with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Hannah Nihill (Cardinal O’Hara AllDelco) chipped in with 11 points and three assists.
